Finally decided to actively try for our first and totally clueless.

Any good recommendations? I want the basics sleeping, eating, but also interested in bigger stuff like how to not kill each other and planning for the baby's future.

I personally think there's not much you need to read for conception, pregnancy and childbirth. It mostly is out of your control. Focus on reading for when the baby arrives.

If you are planning to breastfeed, read Sweet Sleep: Nighttime and Naptime Strategies for the Breastfeeding Family. It will give you realistic expectations of life with a new baby.

Also, How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen. You'll find the content useful from about 18 months old. But best to read it now, while you have the time/headspace to think about these things. Plus if you re-read it closer to the time, the ideas will stick better in your head when you are faced with a tantrum.

I also like these publications on nutrition from First Steps Nutrition Trust. They cover eating well for pregnancy, new mums, infants, weaning and toddlers. Wonderful, evidence based advice, recommended by GPs: www.firststepsnutrition.org/eating-well-resources

Will give the podcast a listen, form the title are you sure it won't change my mind?! Grin
