Morning sickness in subsequent pregnancies

For those of you on your second or third pregnancies (and beyond), how did your morning sickness compare each time?
Was it always worse in subsequent pregnancies?
I’m 5 weeks with my second and I’m not sure if I feel worse than last time, or if I’ve just kind of forgotten how bad the first time was!

Worse for me. Sick but manageable first time. Signed off for 3 weeks and anti-sickness medication 2nd time. Hopefully it's not the same for you!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 30/09/2021 10:43

2nd pregnancy here, my morning sickness lasted much much longer than first time round and symptoms started earlier. Gender made no difference as I'm having another girl. To be honest I've had a crappy pregnancy this time round, first time was an absolute breeze in comparison!

CorpusCallosum · 30/09/2021 10:52

Sorry but it was much worse with 2nd.

With my first I was nauseous around 6-20 weeks but only sick a handful of times. This time I was sick 4-5+ times a day from weeks 5-15 and at least once a day for a week or two before and after that. It was so miserable - I am never doing this again.

thingymaboob · 30/09/2021 11:02

Exactly the same. Debilitating Hyperemesis for both pregnancies.

Curlymam88 · 30/09/2021 11:03

My morning sickness second time around was nothing compared to my first. And both are girls

Amz6219 · 30/09/2021 14:01

I didn't really have morning sickness with my son, just a couple of bouts of nausea here and there

This time I was terrible - nausea and vomiting for 16 weeks

TooMuchCheesecake · 30/09/2021 16:16

In my case it got worse with each pregnancy.
1st no sickness or nausea at all.
2nd occasional sickness until 16 weeks.
3rd constant nausea and sickness, currently 12 weeks and no sign of improvement.

MrsFin · 30/09/2021 16:17

About the same, though with the added complication of looking after a 12 month old.

QueenLagertha · 30/09/2021 16:28

I'm just under 10 weeks pregnant with my second. Barely any sickness this time. Would hardly know I am pregnant.

1st pregnancy (over three years ago) was hard. I had constant debilitating nausea from 3.5 weeks to 13/14 weeks. Lost a noticeable amount of weight. Exhaustion.

Every pregnancy is different I suppose 🤷‍♀️

careerchangeperhaps · 30/09/2021 16:33

First pregnancy, I was hospitalised several times with hyperemesis.
Second pregnancy, I 'just' had bad sickness (all day nausea but was only being sick about 5 times a day compared to the 30+ times a day with my first pregnancy). DCs were different sex.

Dollywilde · 30/09/2021 16:35

First pregnancy I was just nauseous, not sick, from week 6 until week 11. Currently pregnancy with DC2, 8 weeks along and seems to be pretty much the same. Just want to graze on carbs and nausea rears it’s head if I eat too much or not enough.

Jigsawprison · 30/09/2021 16:38

First pregnancy sick from 7 weeks till birth, second pregnancy from 5 weeks till birth. Second was worse however was a twin pregnancy.

BertieTheBungalow · 30/09/2021 16:41

First pregnancy I was sick but manageable between 14 and 22 weeks. I'm currently 11.5 weeks and on my 3rd type of anti sickness tablets, haven't been able to work all week and lost almost a stone in weight in just over 3 week! I'm hopeful these latest meds are working so far and I've managed to eat something for the first time in 6 days!

BrownEyedSquirrel · 30/09/2021 16:49

I wonder if women get more sleep for their first pregnancy so the nausea is more manageable?
My nausea is worse when tired and it's almost a given you'll get less sleep when you already have a young child.

candlelightsatdawn · 30/09/2021 17:01

Lord my sickness has gotten so much worse in subsequent pregnancies.

This time around I'm 15weeks and no sign of the glow. My first I was 14 weeks and bam it was gone. I still feel ridiculously sick now but first was a girl this ones is a boy.

Knitsewthread · 30/09/2021 17:05

I had a nausea in the first and early 2nd trimester of my first pregnancy. A couple of individual weeks where it was stronger and made me feel rubbish. Was never really sick, just gaggy.

I had absolutely nothing in my second so was very, very lucky. Hope you keep well OP

SickAndTiredAgain · 30/09/2021 20:47

Thanks. Seems like a bit of a mix but mainly worse. I was signed off for two months in the first trimester with my last pregnancy, although that was for a combination of issues, not just sickness but the sickness didn’t help. I’m hoping it doesn’t end up being too much worse than that.

Mine were about the same. Pretty much constant nausea until 20 ish weeks. The only difference was I was more tired with the second (had a 1 year old who was still breastfeeding) so I think I felt more depleted because of that. Currently 5 weeks with dc3 and nothing so far…. I’m waiting for it to hit but really hoping it doesn’t and I’ll be lucky this time Confused

ReadtheFT · 30/09/2021 20:59

First nausea was intense and some vomiting, second just a bit of nausea, barely noticeable. Third worse then the first, fourth on the limit of hyperemesis, fifth intense nausea buy little vomiting. No related to different sex of the babies.

DramaAlpaca · 30/09/2021 21:04

Awful with all three, constant nausea, vomiting daily, and each time it lasted until 20 weeks.

DS1 it started at 9 weeks, I was fine until then

DS2 it didn't start until 12 weeks, probably not a coincidence that it was just as I stopped breastfeeding DS. At least I only had six weeks of it

DS3 it started at 5 weeks, before I even got a positive test, it was horrible. I said to myself, never again!

SparkyBlue · 30/09/2021 21:10

Unfortunately my third was the worse. I was never ever so miserable in my life.

SockQueen · 30/09/2021 21:13

My sickness was less bad with my second, at least partly because I got on the meds sooner rather than trying to tough it out for as long as I did first time.

But the first trimester exhaustion while also looking after a toddler was just awful.

Thats interesting about breastfeeding, the easiest one in terms of sickness was my second, and i was still breastfeeding till the fourth month of that pregnancy

I’m still breastfeeding DD, although she’s 27 months and has almost weaned so it’s not that much. Still, I’ll take any bit of optimism I can get!

Mine were pretty much the same, though I found it harder to deal with second time as I had a toddler to run around after at the same time.
