Hey beauties I’m expecting my first child and am 16 weeks 1 day. Still haven’t felt any movements and I’ve heard now is the time I should feel baby so I’m kinda worried? Added with the fact that I haven’t had a scan since I was 7 weeks so I’m hoping everything is okay. (Reason being I have moved house so wasn’t registered with a GP for a while but I’ve now finally got an appointment at a Homerton hospital on the 9th October so maybe they’ll give me a scan then I’ll be 17 weeks 4 days but isn’t that too early for the anatomy scan?
Has anyone not felt movement at 16 weeks and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I've had three healthy babies and didn't feel any of them move until about 20 weeks.

mooloop · 29/09/2021 19:52

16 weeks is at the early end of normal to start feeling movement. I'm sure they say between 16-24 weeks is normal, they're still tiny at 16 weeks so don't worry!

Clevs · 29/09/2021 19:54

My first movements were felt at 18+3.

Miserablewithweight · 29/09/2021 19:54

16 weeks is really early to feel movement and then it’s more like a popping / bubble sensation rather than movement. With my first I didn’t feel anything until 20
Weeks, 22 weeks with 2nd and 18 weeks with 3rd

didn't feel a flutter until 17 weeks and even at that it was the tiniest of wee flutters I wasn't 100% on.

Alfxn · 29/09/2021 19:56

I was definitely 21 - 21 weeks pregnant before I felt anything. My consultant told me in advance that everybody panics at 16 weeks because all of your early pregnancy symptoms disapper and there's a window of feeling "normal"... I'd say enjoy it!!

JLM1008 · 29/09/2021 19:57

A lot of it depends on where your placenta is - with my first and third born my placenta was at the front so I didn't feel anything until 20/21 weeks and even then it was faint. But they were both anterior placentas. With my second born it was posterior and I felt him move at 14 weeks.

NatalieH2220 · 29/09/2021 19:57

With my first I didn't feel movement until 19 weeks. Had anterior placenta so that covered up some of the feelings. With DS2 I was 17 weeks. I definitely wouldn't worry at this stage although can understand it must be hard especially as you missed your 12 week scan.

Bells3032 · 29/09/2021 19:58

I'm 22 weeks and haven't felt anything definitive yet. Midwife says it's fine. I have an anterior placenta (at the front) so cushions all the blows so she said I won't feel much for a while.

16 weeks is very early to feel much for a 1st baby

Constellationstation · 29/09/2021 19:59

I’m pregnant with my second and didn’t feel anything until about 19 weeks. The sonographer assumed that I wouldn’t be feeling movement yet at my 20 week scan

redandwhite1 · 29/09/2021 20:02

I'm 17+5 with my second and only been feeling it a few days and it's not all the time, it'll happen but is probably a bit soon

My first I think was even later

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 29/09/2021 20:02

I didn't feel movements till 24 weeks with my first, and 20 weeks in my 2nd pregnancy, so its totally normal I'm afraid

shangelawasrobbed · 29/09/2021 20:06

I didn't feel any real movements until around 20-21 weeks, and even then they were very faint (kind of a "is that the baby?...") and I only really noticed then if they happened when I was very still and quiet.

I'm 24 weeks now and I'm only just starting to feel definite movement that I notice even when I'm concentrating on something else.

I definitely don't think you need to worry at 16 weeks Smile - I was a bit worried a few weeks ago so I asked one of the doctors at work and they said I should tell my midwife if I didn't feel anything by 24 weeks, but otherwise there was no need to worry xx

Ilovemycat13 · 29/09/2021 20:12

You don’t tend to feel movements until around 20 weeks. And even after that they don’t tend to have a ‘routine’ or regular movements so to speak until around 25-26 weeks.

Feeling first movements especially for a first time mum (if you are) are often felt later. Try not to worry too much yet - but of course If you are worried contact your midwife.
