Hi ladies

How many weeks were you when u were given your section date?

This is an elective section on maternal request due to trauma from previous birth.

Thanks

I had my section due to breech baby but it was still treated as an elective. I was given a date at 38 weeks and booked in at 39 weeks. So not much notice!

Mine was/is elective for medical reasons. For both pregnancies I have been given a date between 12 and 14 weeks.

sarah13xx · 29/09/2021 13:18

First spoke to the consultant at 29 weeks. Really emphasised that I really wanted a date asap due to how anxious I was about the whole thing (same reasons as you). My friend had been left too late to get a date and they ended up fully booked so she was waiting for a cancellation. I told them this and how much it was worrying me. She booked the date there and then but didn’t tell me. My next appointment was 34 weeks where another doctor gave me my date and told me that ‘for some reason’ the consultant had booked it at the first appointment. I suspect that reason was the amount I went on about it 🙈😂 I think my hospital usually gives the date at a 36 week appointment

ReadyForMaternityLeave · 29/09/2021 13:49

Mine is the same reason as yours - I was given it on the 16th of this month if I rennet correctly, booked in for the 25/10 when I'll be 39+2 Smile

Pinkywoo · 29/09/2021 14:01

I was 20 weeks, elcs for medical reasons.

Amz6219 · 29/09/2021 14:07

I didn't make my mind up until 34 weeks, once decided they were full so was put on waiting list

Had call last week at 36+3 to say I am now booked in for 39+1

ToadstoolBubbleMaker · 29/09/2021 14:11

Here if you are having a planned section you see the consultant between 36 and 37 weeks and they phone and book you in while you're there for 39wks+

VanillaSpiceCandle · 29/09/2021 14:12

Seeing the very late dates is slightly reassuring but also worrying. I’m 26 weeks and haven’t heard a thing. Got a consultant appointment on Friday but not sure if this is the best time to ask?

Needingsupportplease · 29/09/2021 14:15

Section was agreed with consultant around 23 weeks and he's booked me an app for 36 weeks when my date will be booked

ToadstoolBubbleMaker · 29/09/2021 14:16

You could just enquire what the process is/when the section will be booked and see what they say. They won't mind.

I think they do it quite late to keep on top of staffing/capacity issues etc to try to keep it all running smoothly and make sure they have everyone spread out across the days. You can imagine if they booked people in at 20 weeks for 39 weeks, in that time a proportion of those people will have had their babies, or their birth plan might have changed etc. By 37 weeks it's going to be quite likely that a planned section will happen, if you see what I mean.

Similar for me
HeyFloof · 29/09/2021 14:39

16 week consultant appointment. Maternal request due to previous section.

Chelyanne · 29/09/2021 15:45

Got mine booked in at 35+6 for 39wk.
I went in to labour early hours 38+6 though and they got me in to surgery that night, baby was born at 23:38.

My consultant asked me which way I wanted to go at every app 16wk onwards as I had previous elcs with our twins. I wanted to wait to see how big baby was getting before committing either way, I have very big babies.

Flamingosnbears · 29/09/2021 15:45

Mine was same as above medical reasons consultant appointment at 16 weeks given the date and opportunity to change it if needed.

Exactly the same timelines for me as well! They will aim for around 39 weeks - mine was 39 weeks on the dot
mariebaby3 · 29/09/2021 16:04

Mine was given at 35weeks for 39+2. Waters ended up breaking 2 days later though!

letsmakethishappen · 29/09/2021 16:12

Am 27 weeks .My consultant has given me a provision date at 39weeks but not booked yet. The actual date will be decided after growth scan at 30weeks

Cafeaulait27 · 29/09/2021 18:18

Mine is elective due to just not wanting a vaginally birth (no medical need) I had my appointment with the consultant at about 24 weeks, it was then booked in about a week later for 39+1. I think it depends on your trust though xx

Chameleon2021 · 29/09/2021 19:29

Mine was the same reason as yours. Met with consultant at 33 weeks and they booked it the same day. X

Moominmiss · 29/09/2021 21:30

I had an appointment with the consultant at 34 weeks and was given my date then, she literally went off and booked it in on the phone, then came back in the room and told me when it was, and where I was on the list for that day.

poodlepip · 29/09/2021 22:09

Had my date yesterday for next week 😆
Knew it would be 39th week so the exact date is a bit arbitrary and can change if emergencies anyway so wouldn't worry too much about when exactly it will be.
Process seems to vary a lot in areas.
Lucky to know a rough time anyway as most have to wait and see over a period of 4 weeks when their little one will arrive!

arield · 30/09/2021 06:34

Anyone at York Hospital?

Floryella · 30/09/2021 10:33

It depends on the trust where you live. In my area the midwife refers you to the consultant doctor and consultant midwife. I was referred at 28 weeks as my midwife could see I had made my mind up. Had my appointment with the doctor at 30 weeks and he booked me in straight away for a section bang on 39 weeks. I had a follow up phone call with the consultant midwife yesterday at 32 weeks which was fine, she didn't try to change my mind, just checked I was making an informed decision.

I must say it's really nice knowing this far in advance and I'm glad my trust doesn't seem to have an issue with elective caesarians like some I've heard of
