Hi guys

I got diagnosed with HSV-2 a few years ago, had a couple of outbreaks, but nothing for a while.
I'm 33 weeks pregnant today and just started getting what looks like the start of an outbreak.
I've texted my midwife but she's useless at responding quickly (normally around a week), is there anyone else I can talk to in confidence? Not sure how to get in contact with a consultant etc...

Can you phone triage? The number should be on your notes somewhere

Yes I can call them - I just didn't know if it was urgent enough, or if I should just wait until she messages back.

Definitely do phone - it might be days before you get a reply (if you get one).

I'd phone, now its so late I'd call tomorrow, but I've had thrush at 26 weeks very recently and they were happy to give advice regarding what I could/couldn't buy over the counter.

If you have HSV then you should be referred to a consultant to prescribe suppressant medication to start taking from 36 weeks OP. This is to reduce the risk of you having an outbreak during labour.

Is your midwife aware you have it? You should have been referred to a consultant regarding it and then have a follow up appointment at 36 weeks to begin a course of suppression medication for 4 weeks until baby is born to reduce risk of passing it to baby. You could always get in contact with your gp to get medication to deal with it now but midwife should have put it on your notes and referred you to get medication at 36 weeks
