Health visitor coming to see me before baby due. What does she want?

Hi all

Well, the title says it all really. She's made an appointment to visit me three days before my due date and I wondered what exactly she wanted - didn't have the guts to ask her!

Is she coming to look at me, or my house or what? I've heard some not so good stories about HVs and am a bit scared of them.

Thanks

I expect it's just a routine visit to introduce herself - though mine waited till after the baby was born iirc.

My HV is lovely - she properly just wants to introduce herself and see if there is anything you are worried about!

Mind you I would be cleaning and tiding my house and freaking out too!

Yeah, I'm worried about health visitors!

Seriously, a bit of an introductory visit sounds ok - oh blimey, I'll be up all night polishing the furniture!

My first HV was wonderful, once even babysat my twins while I had a nap. When I apologised for the untidyness fo the place, she said 'Don't worry, in some places I stick to the floor!' So she won't expect Ideal Home, just wants to answer your questions prob.

I second that; don't go crazy with the cleaning. When my hv came to see me after dd2 I apologised for having dd1's toys all over the floor. She said, "It's the unnaturally tidy, toy-free homes I worry about".

Unless you are living in filth you'll be fine .

Wessexgirl, you've been to my house then?

Actually it looks lovely at the moment. I always thought I was a career girl but 4 days of maternity leave and I've gone all house-proud. Good then. Health Visitors hold no fear for me.

Thanks!

I'm only 19weeks and my HV visted about three weeks ago!

I believe it is uncommon so early but it was only to introduce herself and just say she was there if i needed any advice or support. Think my midwife had contacted her due to my being very stressed over work and finances etc and being prone to depression. However she was lovely and she stayed for a couple of hours just chatting, talking about once baby arrives etc and she's also phoned a few times. I'm really pleased my midwife brought her in early!
