Help! How far along am I?

This is my first pregnancy and I have been bleeding constantly - similar to a period for around 7 weeks (the first week I thought was my period) so I had an early pregnancy scan and they have told me that I am 7 weeks pregnant. The sonographer told me that the bleeding is due to some bruising on my womb but apparently is harmless for now (!) On the scan the baby measures at 4.5 centimetres which, after googling, sounds more like a 10 week pregnancy because online it says at 7 weeks it would be more like 1cm. Do they usually calculate from your last period? Because I told them it was at the end of July which I thought it was but in hindsight I think this could have been the bleeding due to the womb bruising. Could I be further along due to the size of the baby? Thanks so much x

They always go by LMP until you have a scan. The scan will give them a better idea of how far along you are. At my 12 week scan my baby measured 4.6cm and they dated me 11+3 so I'd say you are much further in than 7 weeks x

Are you sure its 4.5cm, and not 4.5mm making you just under 7weeks?

Thank you. It definitely says 4.5 cm so perhaps the sonographer is going from the LMP attached scan and zoomed in on size.

On the day your period was due they class you as 4 weeks pregnant..

Thesnakeminder · 26/09/2021 14:41

That 4.4cm is a machine setting, nothing to do with baby.

Alfxn · 26/09/2021 14:51

Yes as mentioned the bit you've circled is part of the machine settings, not your baby's measurements.
If they told you 7 weeks based on the scan, then you can trust that to be fairly accurate although they might adjust it by a few days on your next scan or two

That photo is more like 7 weeks as by 10 weeks they have bud arms and legs etc which are quite obvious

Ah great - thanks for the info Smile
