Ovarian cyst picked up at 1st trimester scan

Just wondering if anyone else has had a cyst picked up at a scan? I had 2 cysts on my left ovary, one was 2.5cm which was the normal 'egg cyst' I believe, and one which was 9cm x 7cm. Midwife said they'll monitor it at my next scan in 4 weeks, and didn't seem concerned but I'm certainly wary of a cyst this size!

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I recently had an early pregnancy scan and they said that I had a fibroid in my womb but it's nothing to worry about and they will monitor. I had no idea I had it or what it is! I think this is different to a cyst but I feel your pain! My friend has a cyst on her ovary and they monitor it regularly and doesn't cause her any problems so hopefully the same for you x

Hi there, I had a cyst at around 14 weeks, but luckily with plenty of fluids on the go, the cyst went away. My consultant said cysts come and go. But it's about drinking water regularly to make sure that they go rather than stay and increase to a dangerous size x

Cysts often resolve during pregnancy.

No sure drinking water has anything to do with it though. Was it your consultant who said drinking water makes them go away?

I had a large cyst with my first pregnancy. Was noticed on a earlier scan but by the 20 week one had gone.
I was nervous as I have had issues with cysts before and operated but it’s seems that it’s fairly usual in pregnancy and they just keep an eye on it.

I was told at my 7 week scan I had two, both approx 4x4cm. I have had numerous scans since and they have resolved. No issues at all caused by them.

Watching with interest as I’m in a similar position cyst picked up on my first scan (only 3cm) but is causing constant cramps. I’ve been told they are just monitoring too and to take paracetamol and use hot bottles when it becomes too much

Many thanks for the replies, it's helpful to know, while perhaps not common, it doesn't appear to be uncommon. This will be our 3rd DC and I've had the same midwife every pregnancy so I trust her completely. There's just something a bit startling about having such a large 'thing' inside me, was a bit taken aback.

I was told to keep an eye out for a torsion, as apparently the hormones that make the baby/placenta etc. grow can also make the cyst grow and the ovary/tube can twist. My midwife said it would be a sudden onset of extreme pain, so fingers crossed that doesn't happen!

I hope those of you with something similar are feeling okay xx
