Healthy Eating

Hi all,

I'm nearly 12 weeks pregnant, I have my first scan in a few days. I'm concerned that I haven't been eating healthily enough over the last 12 weeks, I've been struggling with morning sickness and have only wanted plain food, things like plain pasta and toast, I don't think I've been eating 5 portions of fruit/veg a day most days. I've been taking the pregnacare max vitamins religiously every day so I was assuming I'd be fine and get what I need from those but after a pregnant friend told me how careful she's being with healthy eating I'm starting to feel worried.

Has anyone else struggled with healthy eating? Or can say anything to help put my mind at rest a bit?

Thanks!

Hi Londoner5s, I'm in completely the same position as you food wise, although some weeks my fruit and veg intake has been zero. I feel so guilty but just can't stomach healthy food. Literally living off pasta cheese and crisps. I'm currently 14 weeks and all was well at my dating scan. I've spoken to many people irl who seem to be the same and just hoping as I get further into the second trimester things will improve. I think with the vitamins you will be fine.

Totally normal, especially in the first trimester. Just try to eat as well as YOU can. Eg if you can manage chilled grapes, eat them. But if you literally live off white bread and ice lollies for weeks don't worry. Your baby will get what it needs (pillaging your body in the process, but luckily it's still too small to be too greedy) 😆

I didn't take any vitamins in my last pregnancy or eat anything really apart from oven chips, bread, crisps and crackers. I lost 10kg due to severe Hyperemesis. I was anaemic so took iron tablets in last trimester. My baby was born 8lb and she's a very bright happy 3 year old. Women all over the world are having babies in war zones, droughts and have limited access to the same range of food that we do in the west, let alone prenatal vitamins. Your baby will be absolutely fine. Eating shit food in the first trimester will not harm them.

For me that was totally normal. The only veg or fruits I would take was in a form of an occasional smoothie when I popped to the shops. Carbs got me through the first trimester or so. It's the only thing that I wanted or needed. I'm now 26 weeks and he's growing well.

Thanks all! I feel better now knowing it's not just me and is normal for a lot of women.

I lived off of plain pasta, toast, pizza, and cheese sandwiches in first trimester. 30 weeks now and baby is totally fine.

I'm in the same position, currently 8 weeks and can't stomach anything with a flavour. Toast and plain crisps all the way. I bought some apples but cutting them made me heave...
I feel horrific I'm just eating beige food but I figured eating something is better than nothing!

Yeah v normal to just want simple beige low res food in first trimester. Eat whatever you can stomach! X
