Stabbing pain 23 weeks pregnant

I'm almost 23 weeks and having cramp/sharp pains in my lower left under my bump. The pain is bad and radiates through my back. I had a spell of it about 2 hours ago which lasted maybe an hour and it died down and I've just had dinner and it's started up again. I'd say it almost comes in waves. It gets so bad I can't talk.

When I had it earlier, I called my maternity hub and they said to take paracetamol and have a hot bath but to call back if it persists.

I am prepared to be told 'Mumsnet can't tell you what to do, call a doctor' etc. but just wondering if this is completely normal! This is my first baby if it wasn't obviousGrin

Op I’m no expert (I’ve had two children but let’s not go into my experiences!) - honestly I would get seen wherever you can - now.
It could be Beaton Hicks (maybe too early?), general round ligament pain or something but if it’s a sharp pain that’s not necessarily a good sign.
Is there an out of hours clinic or an open triage unit (maternity) in your hospital?
At least call 111 and go through it with them if you can’t immediately be seen.
I’m definitely definitely not trying to scare you but I had something similar later in pregnancy with my first and the outcome was not good.
Better to be safe than sorry.
Good luck

Braxton not Beaton!!

I'd guess round ligament pain. It's horrific when it happens. Have a google and also ring 111 so not take any risks.

Justtickingboxes · 24/09/2021 18:25

I'd get it checked out urgently. Better safe than sorry xxx

Okay thank you everyone! Following your advice and about to call 111 now

Any update?

When I was around same stage I got the most horrific pains. I kind of knew it wasn't the baby but omg the pain!!!!! Looking back on it it was worse than labour. I was screaming and couldn't walk. We went to local maternity unit and they checked me but couldn't find anything wrong. It was absolute agony for about 8 hours then tailed off. They suspected pelvic girdle pain/ligaments and my pelvis had misaligned. I never had it again but wow, it was bad!

Update:

I went to the maternity unit in the hospital last night and blood pressure and baby was absolutely fine. There was some concern about a bladder infection but urine sample came back fine. Then got moved onto the antenatal ward just to speak to a doctor but after 2 hours of waiting I spoke to the midwife and she said she'd be happy for me to go home (I hadn't had the pain at all since I'd been there!) but of course recommended I speak to the doctor.

I came home and haven't had the pain since. If it comes back I will go back to the hospital but I'm assuming it was ligament pain

I'm the same as you, 23 weeks and had the exact same Friday! It was where you'd have thought your left ovary would be and was coming every minute or two for a few seconds at a time regardless of what I was doing. My midwife said probably ligament pain. Yesterday I woke up and it was gone and been fine since 🤷🏽‍♀️
