I am consultant led (thyroid / age / previous issues with labour) and have just had my 16 week appointment with a midwife and next one is the 25 week

When does the consultant appointments start?! I don't know why but I assumed I would have seen them by now?

I can't remember exactly sorry but it was about 16 weeks. I only had a few appointments but being consultant led meant I gave birth on a different ward.

Do you have an Underactive thyroid and if yes have they increased your dose?

Miserablewithweight · 23/09/2021 07:08

With DS2 I didn’t see my consultant until 28
Weeks then again at 32 and 36 to discuss growth scans etc

I saw my consultant at 16 weeks for a general Chat but with DD but again no regular appointments until 28+ weeks. Midwife as normal until that point.

I had my first consultant appointment at 16 weeks and have another one scheduled for 20 weeks. I'd maybe check with the midwives to make sure you've not been missed?

JackJack84 · 23/09/2021 07:26

I'm 31+5 & was told at my 8 week booking appointment that I'd be consultant led. I've had one telephone appointment at 23 weeks with my consultant so far, everything else has been through my midwife.

I think it depends on your trust and what you’re consultant led for. I’m consultant led for high blood pressure and saw them at 14 weeks and have seen them every 4 weeks following growth scans.

lemongirl1985 · 23/09/2021 08:38

For me it started at 28 weeks and I see my consultant every 2 weeks until the end of pregnancy x

T0rt0ise · 23/09/2021 08:40

First at 16 weeks, next at 36 weeks.

Taenia · 23/09/2021 09:13

I saw my consultant at 25 weeks for a chat about things. Initially I was then only going to see them alongside growth scans at 28 weeks, 32 and 36 weeks but unfortunately have developed quite severe Gestatiinal diabetes and have been seeing them a lot more (I'm 28 weeks) at the moment but i do find it helpful as gives me a chance to ask questions etc.

Katy4321 · 23/09/2021 09:22

I'm consultant led due to age. Spoke to them briefly in a telephone chat at 16 weeks. Then seeing them soon for growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks. Guess there were no major other flags and I have had all the community midwife appointments without issues.
I hope all goes smoothly with you, and i think best to double check when you should first see them.

Katieandthekids · 23/09/2021 09:23

We had consultant led with my twins (shared placenta) and my first appointment was 14 weeks then every two weeks after

RavenclawsRoar · 23/09/2021 09:56

I was consultant led with ds2 and saw the consultant at 16w and 26w. This time I was told I would only be seen at 36w but due to some other complications unfortunately arising I actually saw him at 30w and booked in again in 2 weeks. Very much depends how everything is going I think!

Maneandfeathers · 23/09/2021 09:57

Mine started at 28 weeks and I’ve seen them every 3 weeks since.

redandwhite1 · 24/09/2021 23:49

Gosh lots of variation!

Next app is 25 weeks so I'll mention something then if not heard or maybe at my 20 week scan

Dosage on my thyroid hasn't been mentioned or changed so far....

Don't be panicking over the weekend but have a google yourself and ring the GP for an over the phone chat. Have some links to hand to refer them to if they aren't on board.

I've had a perfectly healthy pregnancy where nobody has increased my dose so please don't panic.

I’m the same for thyroid and low papp a. Had first consultant app at 19 weeks and have another at 36
Growth scans at 28, 32 and 40 weeks
They kept forgetting to test my thyroid 😬

Knock123 · 25/09/2021 19:54

I have an underactive thyroid, I had a phone call with consultant at 16 weeks, in person appointments at 28 & have one booked for 36 weeks (34 now).
My TSH was closely monitored as I was with a recurrent miscarriage consultant first trimester so my TSH was tested just before getting pregnant and again around 7 or 8 weeks, where my thyroxine was then increased slightly. I have been tested at 16, 28 and 34 weeks. Not everyone needs their dose increase and actually some people need dose decreased!

redandwhite1 · 25/09/2021 20:52

Have decided to call the doctors on Monday to get a Telephone call back just to ask the question just in case they've forgotten etc

Thanks everyone, all been really helpful!

I also have an under active thyroid and am currently 25 weeks pregnant. I have been monitored through out the pregnancy and was originally on 175mcg of thyroxine before pregnancy and it has been steadily increased by 25mcg each time so I am now on 250mcg ( 3 increases) I see the consultant every 4-6 weeks with a blood test just before. I am based in Essex so not sure if it's a borough/ county thing. Definitely best to check if you need an increase though
