Measured at midwife appointments?

Hi
Do you get your bump measured at your midwife appointments? Mine hasn’t done saying I have a fibroid so it wouldn’t be an accurate measurement but I recently went for a private scan and was told I should be measured. What’s everyone else’s experience? I’m about 28 weeks now.

Mine started measuring my bump at my 28 week appointment x

Yes, I’m measured every check up since 20 weeks.
I was previously told I had a fibroid too, although it’s never caused any problems so perhaps midwife doesn’t even know about it.

I am aware that measuring bump has been known to cause concerns unnecessarily- e.g it’s not very accurate so it can make midwives think bump is bigger than expected. Perhaps fibroids increase this inaccuracy.
If you’re worried though, do ask them directly what is the best way to monitor baby’s growth if bump measurement is not appropriate. You could perhaps be sent for regular growth scans instead (I’m just guessing).
Good luck xx

If you've got a fibroid I'm guessing it could distort your measurements. People at private scan places aren't normally medically trained, so aren't the ones who are best placed to decide on your care. Ask your midwife about it again, absolutely, but I would then go with your midwife's advice.

I was measured from my 28 week appointment with this one until I started having growth scans then as others have said the tape measure doesn't add anything to the mix so she just has a feel and does the heartbeat now.

Have you had your 28 week appointment already?

You should have regular growth scans starting about now to replace the bump measuring. I would ring your midwife if you have one named or the antenatal clinic at your booking hospital to discuss this.

The MW also started measuring my bump at my 28 weeks appointment, carried on doing it with each appointment afterwards, like pp has said have you had your 28 weeks appointment yet? X

I've had private scans at Ultrasound Direct and it's the same sonographers that I see in my NHS hospital.
During the pandemic they helped out the NHS.
They are definitely medically trained. You can always ask for the credentials of whoever is scanning you.
