Baby measuring big/gestational diabetes test

Hi everyone. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and had a scan today as baby has been measuring big. I've to have a follow up appointment with the Dr tomorrow but not sure what will be discussed. Has anyone experienced being induced early because baby measured big? Also I've to fast tonight and go for a gestational diabetes test tomorrow. Does anyone know what this test involves as from what the midwife said today it seemed like just having blood taken but when I read more on Google it seems like I have to stay 2 hours to have further tests. She didn't explain this so I thought I would just be in and out quickly. And if anyone has had gestational diabetes was your baby big and did they want baby to come earlier?

Sorry for all the questions but feel there's no communication/consistency between my midwife/sonographer/doctor. The sonographer actually asked me today if I knew why I was there as she didn't know why I was needing a scan.

The usual GTT is a blood test, a glucose drink that some people like and others hate and another blood test two hours later, I think. You typically have to stay in the hospital for the whole test, some let you walk around and some don’t. I’d take a book or something, just incase!

Some hospitals are not doing the GTT at the moment due to the pandemic (mine isn’t, I’m just having a standard blood test instead) but most are; and it’s a lot more accurate than the one-off blood test.

I hope that helps a bit!

Yep, GTT is quite simple, fast overnight, blood draw, drink an overly sweet thick syrup, wait 2 hours and then another blood draw. I've got one booked in for next week and I had one in my last pregnancy too.

I didn't have GD in my last pregnancy, DS was just a large baby. There was talk of induction because of this, they forecast him at 10lb at 40 weeks, but in the end I went into labour myself and had DS 11 days late, he was 10lb 11!

GTT used to be the drink then retest in 2h, but most places just do one test and send you home now, due to Covid.

I had this in my last pregnancy. DS measured big the entire pregnancy. He was a (kinda) big baby.

You fast the night before your test, then do a blood test. You're given a sugary drink and then they make you sit down for two hours. Then they retest your bloods.

I was never diagnosed with GD. My bloods were borderline negative. I had to do the GTT test every three weeks from 28 weeks just to make sure. I had him early at 38 weeks due to pre-eclampsia, not because of his size.

I know people who have been induced because of GD. It all depends on how severe it is and how big your baby is really.
