Can you help! I have lower ab pains - nothing like when I was first pregnant and had period like pains. I am 12 weeks - scan next week. The pains are more like that feeling you get when you are absolutely bursting for a wee and you get a burning sensation in your tummy - only I don't need to wee. Then sometimes (about half a dozen times since yesterday get a bit of a stabbing pain. No blood and no discharge.

Any thoughts? Is it just normal do you think - anyone had anything similar at all?

Cheers

go to your gp - maybe you have a urine infection

It is probably all of the ligaments stretching, placenta developing and attaching properly, everything generally expanding. I had all sorts of stretching feelings, especially around 12 weeks.

That said, do you have a midwife you can call for reassurance? They honestly will not mind giving you the once over. It could also be a UTI. Water infections are extremely common in pregnancy and your midwife will do a quick test for this.

Could be a urine infection or could be your muscles being stretched In both my pregnancies I have had a heavy dragging feeling in my lower abdomen and I get sharp pains when I roll over in bed sometimes.

I was hoping it would be all my bits and pieces stretching. I don't have an out of hours number to call with the exception of the maternity unit at the hospital or NHS 24. Think I might try and see them first thing in the morning.
