What were your Gestational Diabetes Glucose Test Results?

Hi All! So I had my 1hr glucose screening appointment last week, no fasting required, just 50mg of glucose drink and a blood test 1hr later. It came back smack on the threshold of 140mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L), so today I had to go back for the 2hr tolerance test. This meant fasting beforehand, an initial blood test, 75mg of glucose drink, and then a blood test after 1hr and 2hrs.

My results were:
Initial test = 95mg/dL(5.3mmol/L), threshold was 92mg/dL(5.1mmol/L)
1hr test = 203mg/dL(11.3mmol/L), threshold was 180mg/dL(10mmol/L)
2hr test = 165mg/dL(9.2mmol/L), threshold was 153mg/dL(8.5mmol/L)

Which has resulted in a positive GD diagnosis, and all that comes with it.

However, I'm just trying to gauge how bad/not so bad these results are, and wondering how this compares to other people's results who have also been diagnosed with GD? The appointment today was a bit of a whirlwind and I didn't get to ask many questions I thought of afterwards!

TIA!

I was diagnosed with GD last week.

I was supposed to do the two hour test but got as far as the fasting stage and had a result of 9.2 so they couldn't give me the glucose drink.

I was called into the diabetes team a week after, given a blood sugar monitoring kit and given a few days to change my diet and see how I went.

This week is week two and despite changing my diet I'm still getting the majority of my readings high and fasting has never been low. No matter what advice I follow.

This was followed up with a growth scan yesterday (my baby is 97th percentile so rather large.. ) so I'm back in with the diabetes team tomorrow to start medication. (Insulin and Metformin) as my week of diet control meant I could barely eat enough carbs and had ketones at both my 28 week midwife and growth scan apps.

I've found the gestational diabetes UK Facebook page absolutely amazing. Lots of recepie ideas and advice on there from people in the same boat. Loads diet controlled only, loads also medication controlled. :)

@Taenia, thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear your readings have been high, it is nice knowing that its been picked up tho and you're being treated.

I pick up my monitoring kit today, so will be interested to see whether I can control it via diet alone, fingers crossed!

And thank you for the fb suggestion, I will definitely join!

Hi there, I didn't have a 1 hour option but did my 2 hour at 29w. My results were:

Fasting: 5.3 (limit 5.1)
1hr: 9.4 (limit 10)
2hr: 5.6 (limit 8.5)

Agree with PP that the GD UK website and Facebook group is a dream for information. They also talk about borderline diagnosis - which can be quite common but actually as GD is progressive quite often your levels will increase as you head further into your pregnancy.

It's definitely a shock to get the diagnosis but is very manageable once you get your head around it!

Not had GTT this time (just HBA1C) but diagnosed from home testing.

With my son fasting was 4.6 and was 9.0 after 2 hours (didn't have 1hr check), so not far different from yours - I remained diet controlled throughout.

DEFNITELY couldn't have stayed diet controlled without GDUK website and the FB Group, so second those as recommended above x

Thank you for the replies. Started measuring yesterday, and all were within range, however this morning, after the same breakfast, I was very much over the range after the hour. This may take some figuring out!
