10 weeks pregnant but measuring 6 on scan

Hi all, we booked an early scan for today because my husband couldn't make the 12 week scan. However I'm only measuring 3mm, she said that's around 6 weeks. We saw a egg sack and fetal pole but no heartbeat. My last LMP was 10th July so by those dates I should be around 10 weeks, although my periods have been a bit irregular since March. She said we may just be out with our dates and rebooked us in for a weeks time but to speak with my midwife tomorrow. but I had my first BFP 5 weeks ago and the clearblue test said I was 3+ weeks then, so I don't think only being 6 weeks pregnant would really make sense. Has anyone else had this but gone for their next scan and there has been a heartbeat and increase in size? I'm trying to remain positive but I think I already know the answer. I still have morning sickness all day and night, sore boobs and other symptoms though. Other then my resting heart rate being lower then pre pregnancy, I've had no signs of anything going wrong 😔

Ah I had exactly this with my first miscarriage. I was 10 weeks when I went for a private scan but was only measuring 6, also invited back for a repeat scan but I just knew in my heart that it was over. I called my EPU and explained what had happened and they fit me in the next day for a scan and bloods. Repeat scan and bloods 48 hours later confirmed a missed miscarriage.
Just wanted you to know that you are not alone in this experience. It's confusing and heartbreaking and the waiting around is just awful but it's all you can do. I hope that by some miracle that you are just way off on your dates or something and you get a good outcome in the end Flowers

Hi couldn't just read and not comment.
I had the same situation in May, 9.5 weeks with date but baby only measuring 6 weeks.
Scan a week later confirmed missed miscarriage. As PP has said it's such a hard wait this next week, lots of mixed emotions. Be kind to yourself. Be there for each other, because there's nothing else to do but wait. I do hope there's just something going on with dates but if you prepare for the worst you're preparing for everything xx

Thank you for your replies. I think I know in my heart that baby has gone. I just don't see there could possibly be such a huge difference in dates, even if I ovulated later then usual. I found out I was pregnant 5 weeks ago and I'm presuming that the 6 week the sonographer gave me today includes the 2 weeks they add on, which would mean I had a positive pregnancy test before I had even conceived 😔 I'll ring my midwife tomorrow and see what she says.

@Everly18 I was in the exact same situation and resulted in a miscarriage...

That's terribly sad OP. If it's any consolation at all I had an early scan at what I thought was 7/8 weeks and ended up measuring at 4 weeks no heartbeat. I then had a scan at '12 weeks' and measured 10weeks and then suddenly at my rebooked 12 weeks scan there had been a growth spurt and measured 13+5.

I do have long cycles so it could be explained away but the wait between the early scan and the hospital scan was excruciating. I really hope it works out for you.

I spoke with my GP this morning who referred me to the early assessment unit, they rang me straight back but unfortunately they can't see me until I have a negative PCR result due to having a headache and temperature on and off for weeks 😏 she booked me in for Friday afternoon, so I should hopefully have my result back by then. She said they would rescan and then go from there and possibly rescan again in 7-10 days to see if there is any change but a blighted ovum or missed miscarriage was mentioned. 😔

So sorry OP, my first pregnancy was very similar to this and it wasn't good news. Fingers crossed for you though, you never know.

So I have a weird story similar yet different to this one -

Frozen embryo transfer (natural cycle). At 7.5 week scan, 2 empty sacs were identified. 10 days later, an embryo has been found in one of the sacs, but it measures very small, about 6 weeks (instead of the 9.5 weeks it should be). I've started bleeding already but it's unclear whether I'm shedding empty sac only, or everything, or empty sac first, than the other? Have a follow up scan in a week to see what happened. I don't understand why the embryo wasn't there before and now is - clearly it was too small to be seen before, which means it has grown? Just very slowly???? Or got a late start for some reason? Makes no sense 💁
