My DDs nursery has an outbreak of this, with lots of kids getting it. My DD is 9 mo and I've been informally advised that I might want to consider taking her out until it's calmed down. But equally, it could go on for weeks and weeks if not months, so I'm not too keen on that. Also, I'm 19 weeks pregnant with DD2, so very concerned about this - realistically if DD gets it, don't see how I don't, and then potential implications for DD2. Totally confused as to what to do. Would happily take DD out of nursery for a week or two, if that protected us all, but from what I understand, it would still be a major risk in the nursery because it lasts so long. Has anyone any experience of this? My DD is a picture of health and I'm having an easy pregnancy, but still.

I think this is horrible in adults.
Might be worth keeping her at home for a bit. Ask your GP?

I caught it from my toddler at about 18/19 weeks. It’s absolutely rife in nurseries at the moment - I’ve had two friends with young children tell me they’ve got it just today!

It wasn’t bad for me. Just an itchy rash. My husband got it worse but even then it was tolerable. My midwife wasn’t concerned at all - she said there weren’t any risks at that stage in pregnancy.

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and my DD has just had it, me and baby are fine even though I cuddled DD and kissed her sore bits when she asked me to. (Dr originally said roseola and chicken pox but turned out to be hand foot mouth) speak to your midwife but its your call. Think its one of those things thats always about!

Oh hand foot & mouth is everywhere now. You might keep her at home for a few weeks and then might find that she catches it when you send her back.
In my DD nursery it went on for months and it's still around. She had it twice 🤪 I was also 17 weeks pregnant the first time & 25 weeks the second time. Both baby and I were fine x

My daughter caught hand foot and mouth and none of the rest of the family got it, if that’s any reassurance?

HFM is just one of those things that's always doing the rounds so I think if your DD is in childcare it's only a matter of time. DD got it when she was 9mo before she was even in nursery - she was absolutely fine bar a few blisters. I caught from her really badly and it was really painful, but my mum said I never had it as a child so I guess I had zero antibodies. Being pregnant wouldn't have made much difference to how I felt though and the worst of it was over in 3/4 days. I think I'd probably rather have it when pregnant than with a new baby!

My husband didn't get it at all – but he'd had it as a child.

Thanks for all this. I'd never even heard of it, so was all at sea!

My 2 year old DS caught this when I was 39 weeks pregnant a few months back. He was a bitout of sorts for a few days and the rash came and went within a week. Its everywhere at the moment, I spoke to the doctor who was not concerned for either of us and said its as common as the common cold and will go as quickly as it comes. My childminders also said they didn't need children to stay off once they had it as it could have been incubating for a while, so in theory the children would always be off as there was no way to tell when they were infected. Whilst it can be a bit unpleasant it was all done and dusted for us in about 5 days

I caught this from my GD. I felt a bit under the weather and my mouth was full of ulcers - couldn’t count them all. the pharmacist (in Israel, we were on holiday) gave me a special gel for my mouth. I had honestly never heard of it till then.
