Early scan

Hi, I had a early scan today because I've been losing brown discharge, going by my test saying 2-3 weeks I assumed I could be around 8 weeks for the lady to say I was 5 to 6 weeks so couldn't find a heart beat and I have to go back in 10days time. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm going out of my mind because she said bleeding is definitely not normal when I know people have bled and had perfectly healthy babies. She has really got me thinking the worst 😔

2-3 weeks means you conceived 2-3 weeks ago so 5 weeks pregnant would be accurate as you generally add 2 weeks onto that estimate. It's very common not to see a heartbeat that early. I'll be honest, it could go either way. I've had brown discharge that has both been nothing and I went on to have a perfectly healthy baby, and brown discharge that has progressed and ended in a miscarriage. The waiting game is awful but waiting really is all you can do. Good luck for the next scan Flowers

Thank you for letting me know. How long did the brown last when you had a healthy baby and how long with the miscarriage? If you can remember please, and did you have any other symptoms with the miscarriage?. Yeah the wait is definitely awful. Thanks so much 🤞

@Mammytobee I had it on and off for weeks with my DS1, turned out to be a haematoma and it just kind of disappeared on its on. With the miscarriage, the brown discharge lasted about 9 days before turning pink for a few days then eventually red. I never really had any other signs until the red bleeding started, then I had cramping and clots. I hope it's a good outcome for you 🤞

I had an ultrasound between 5-6 weeks with the nhs for similar reasons, and they couldn't see anything, including the sac.

I was absolutely convinced something was wrong, especially as they could see a bleed on the ultrasound, but I wasn't bleeding and didn't experience any bleeding.

I went back at 7 weeks and baby was there, heart beating away! I'm 18 weeks today, hopefully your next scan will show everything being ok.

Thank you so much!! 🤞. I'll get the odd dark patch on the toilet roll like once/twice a day, then it'll stop and just be tiny watery bits other times or none at all. X

When did you first get a positive test? Do you know when you ovulated?
They will help you determine whether the pregnancy is viable or not.

Im sorry your going through this. I'm also going through similar, I had a private scan yesterday and I should have been around 10 weeks pregnant, however I'm only measuring 6 weeks, there's an egg sack and fetal pole but no heartbeat, they said I could just have the dates wrong but I tested positive 5 weeks ago and I'm assuming the sonographer added on the extra 2 weeks so that would mean I had a positive pregnancy test a week before I conceived, if I'm working it out correctly. I spoke with EPAU this morning who will see me Friday once I have a negative PCR test as I've had a headache and temperature on and off for weeks. 😔

26th of August and I don't know me and my partner were trying that long with no success so gave up tracking everything then this happened. Really worried now as I only thought I was further because the test I took on the 26th said 2-3 weeks

I've just gone through something similar and it's very likely you've had a miscarriage that hasn't passed naturally. I'm sorry but I found it's better to understand and grieve early rather than have that glimmer of hope.

GinnyBee · 23/09/2021 20:12

That does unfortunately sound like a missed miscarriage, if you tested 2-3 weeks already 4 weeks ago. You should be further along than 5-6 weeks now. I'm so sorry. xx

Oti21 · 23/09/2021 20:23

Sorry you’re going through this. I had a similar experience a few months ago and unfortunately I miscarried. My test didn’t say 3+ until after it should have, I then bled and so had an early scan where the baby wasn’t measuring as it should. They made me rescan again 10 days later but then I had to have a further scan a week later before they’d confirm it was a miscarriage because the baby had continued to grow just not enough. They did say that it’s not always bad news at rescans though. Fingers crossed for you x
