Bump size shrinking 10 weeks

Hello ladies,

I am 10+2 weeks pregnant today. Around 7-8 weeks, I felt so huge and thought I saw a huge bump. But it has just deflated now and I don't feel pregnant at all. To top it with, I have had no symptoms either all the way through. Been sleeping, eating great and the constipation I have is because of the iron tablets I'm taking. We saw a heartbeat at my early scan at 6 weeks, and my NHS 12 weeks scan is in another 10 days, but I can't wrap my head around the fact that something is wrong.

I had a MC last year and its taken a long way to get here. I have read a lot about how the bloating causes a bump to show initially but goes away around 10-11 weeks, but have any of you had the same and kindly share your experiences with me ? Does this happen in the cases of MMC too ?

That is definitely bloat, a bump isn't possible from baby at 10 weeks as its still absolutely tiny and deep inside the pelvis.

wombatspoopcubes · 21/09/2021 09:38

That was bloat, not baby. Early pregnancy bloat can make you feel massive. Your uturus actually isn't that big now, look it up.

Ughmaybenot · 21/09/2021 09:39

It’s generally down to the bloat I’m afraid! It’s very common to get quite a bump early on then as the bloat calms the f down, you seem to shrink again. I can understand why you’re nervous tho, given your past. Love and luck Flowers

Try not to worry! At this stage it is more likely to be bloating than an actual bump. It will fluctuate based on your hormones. It will be several weeks before you have an actual baby bump.

gamerchick · 21/09/2021 09:40

You'll know when you pop over your pubic bone OP. You won't have a bump yet. Try not to stress.

wombatspoopcubes · 21/09/2021 09:40

It's a worrying time, isn't it? I felt very unsure of the pregnqncy as well. It took a good while to subside as well. Has nothing to do with how the baby is actually doing.

GemmaRuby · 21/09/2021 09:43

Was just coming on to say the same as everyone else. It’s just bloating that’s gone down. The actually baby is so teeny tiny at the moment, it’s too small to show as a bump.

I know it’s a really stressful time, not long till your 12 week scan and hopefully you’ll feel more reassured after that.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 21/09/2021 09:43

You don’t have a bump at 10 weeks, baby is so tiny at that point and the placenta has only just developed so that is tiny too. There is nothing to give a bump until much later. An early baby bump really is just bloat, which as you’ve already said can start to decrease about 10 weeks. My jeans were tight around 7-8 weeks but became lose again around 10 weeks. They didn’t get tight again until about 16/17 weeks when baby starts to get a bit bigger. I’m 30 weeks and probably a couple of weeks away from abandoning my maternity jeans and just living in leggings.

AnxiousAbi · 21/09/2021 09:48

I’m sorry to hear about your miscarriage OP.
It’s understandable that you will be worried given what you’ve been through.

Do you have any other DC?

You wouldn’t have a bump as early so I think you’ve probably just been bloated.

With DC1 I didn’t even need maternity jeans until I was 20 weeks+

DC2 was a bit different.

shannonl26 · 21/09/2021 15:05

@Pinksworthy90 I’m 10 weeks 2 days today too & to be honest, if it wasn’t for my incredibly sore boobs I’d forget I was pregnant, my bloating has also decreased rapidly. It’s hard not to worry (I can be the worlds worst), I hope you have a happy & healthy pregnancy.

I’ve got a private scan booked for tonight, I found this has eased my anxiety slightly. I don’t have a date for my 12 week scan yet, yours will be here before you know it!

HW1989 · 21/09/2021 23:19

I feel I could have written this a week ago! I was feeling huge around 7-10 weeks, then suddenly flat stomach and fitting in jeans again. Nausea came and went, along with other symptoms. I too had a mc last year and understand how nerve wracking the next pregnancy can be. and despite an early scan at 6 weeks showing a heartbeat, I was convinced there’d be nothing to see at my 12 week scan. But baby was there bouncing away looking healthy.
I’m hoping the same goes for you. Good luck!

Pinksworthy90 · 22/09/2021 09:25

Thank you everyone for the reassurance. I'm trying to focus on my work and keep myself busy and distracted, so that the days move fast.

@AnxiousAbi This is my first, which is why I don't have anything to compare with.

@shannonl26 Hope your scan went well and you have some relief now ?

@Pinksworthy90 scan went amazing thank you. We went with a company called First Encouters & I honestly cannot recommend them enough. We have been sent over countless pictures & videos all included in the price. Absolutely worth it if anyone is in two minds about booking a private scan.

We were actually booked in for Saturday but then rang with availability & I simply couldn’t help myself so went a few days early & im so glad we did. But seeing baby wriggle around with a flickering heartbeat has taken away all my worries.

How are you feeling OP? Only 9 days until your scan. It will fly by!

HoppingPavlova · 22/09/2021 09:35

You can’t have a bump at 7/8wks. It’s bloating.

YouMeandtheSpew · 22/09/2021 09:59

As others have said it wasn’t a bump, it was bloat. But you have my sympathy, I think waiting for your 12 week scan is such a tough time - usually the only proof you have that there’s a baby in there is a positive test from weeks ago; you either feel absolutely terrible or you’re stressing about the lack of symptoms; you’re constantly aware of the risk of miscarriage; there’s very little support midwives etc can offer you at this stage… I’ve done the first trimester twice now and I absolutely hated it both times! Not long till your scan Smile

Anon08 · 22/09/2021 10:07

I had the same, was huge and uncomfortable but it was just bloating, I was in maternity bottoms at 6/7 weeks but it went away. My bump only appeared at 25weeks.

Pinksworthy90 · 23/09/2021 09:57

@shannonl26 : So glad it was all okay for you. You can now wait for your 12w scan date come in without much worry. I'm okay, thank you. Kept myself busy with the work during the day and took out some time to deadhead my rose bushes in the evening which were neglected from the day I got BFP :D It felt nice. Although DH is frustrated with me thinking about the same day and night, and I bet he is waiting for the scan to come soon too just to see my nerves calm down.

@YouMeandtheSpew : You couldn't have put it all in a more better way. I feel so normal in the mornings especially that if we hadn't been TTC and didn't have missed periods, I wouldn't have known I would be pregnant.
