Do most people have a private scan?

Talking to my friend who is the same amount of weeks pregnant as me and she was telling me about taking her children to a private scan to see the new baby and finding out the gender. I know DH will say no if I suggested it so feeling a little hard done by! Are we in the minority only having nhs scans?

I had 3 private scans in my first pregnancy (8 weeks,10 weeks and 16 weeks). The first was because I couldn't believe I was really pregnant. The second for reassurance and the third to find out the sex.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant now and had a private scan at 9 weeks to make sure everything was ok as couldn't wait until 12 weeks. Having another at 16 weeks, again to find out the sex.

I didn't with DS1 (he's now 14) but only as I never heard of them tbh, otherwise I would of done!

I did with DS2 (now 13 weeks old)

I had the nhs one at 8+6
Private at 12 weeks
Private at 16 week (gender scan)
Nhs 20 weeks
Private at 29 weeks (4d scan)

We've decided DS2 is our last, but if we did have one I'd definitely go for a few private ones, there amazing and well worth it imo x

First baby and we have had 2 private scans so far, in between our 12 and 20 week NHS scans. Purely for reassurance and peace of mind. We had the first at 8 weeks as I have had no symptoms so I didn't believe it was real until I saw the scan.

Hats off to ladies that wait until 12 weeks, we just couldn't wait that long. Smile

Nope, no extra scans. Would rather spend our money on stuff for the baby once it actually arrives

Nikkic2123 · 20/09/2021 20:51

I wasn't getting my nhs scan until 12 weeks, I booked a private scan for 9 weeks. Unfortunately, there was no heart beat. I'm glad I found out sooner x

Only at a private clinic with a top consultant in fetal medicine, someone who works at UCLH. Definitely wouldn't go to somewhere like window to the womb

I’ve never heard of anyone having a private scan - unless on here.

Also yes just to add, totally don't think it's a necessity, I just had an issue where I was too early to be seen at UCLH (they won't see you pre-14 weeks) and didn't want to go to A&E. Plus the guy is really really good, so I used it as an opportunity to get everything checked over, see how baby was doing so far. But everyone I know, bar 1 person, just had the two NHS scans
