Increasing milk production - is there anything I could be doing/taking now?

Hi all

I'd like to breast feed but had a reduction seven years ago so am trying to find preemptive ways to make the whole process more do-able rather than just go with the flow (no pun intended ).

I think I can take domperidone for milk production when I give birth and there are herbal remedies such as Goat's Rue and Shatavari but is there anything I can be taking now? Should I be fiddling with my nipples or anything?

I'm 24 weeks, not leaking obv.

Thanks!

Hi MHC

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I've seen the book but the cheapest I can buy it online is £17 so I'm trying to get some free advice first. Going to see a BF specialist too. From reading the BFAR forum it seems as though you can only start taking stuff after birth though.

Thanks! That's v. interesting - esp about the pethidene. Do other painkillers also inhibit lactation? I've been a bit leery of it anyhow since I've heard it makes the baby v. woozy.

I'd like to have the skin to skin contact too - will add it to my birth plan. I had quite a big reduction (H to DD) but the surgeons were quite proud of their work so hopefully not all of my bits were damaged.
