Hi,
I am trying to choose between Kings or St Thomas Hospitals for maternity care. I live 10 mins drive from Kings but St Thomas is so much more convenient for making appoints with work. Would love to know any positive or negative experiences that you would be happy to share? Many thanks :)

St thomas was amazing for me. I started at Kings and transferred after a bad experience with a midwife. Having said that, I know lots of people who were happy at Kings.

It's been a few years but I liked Kings. They picked up on a condition my two children had that I suspect my first had but wasn't picked up on at a different hospital. It meant I was in for a week on both occasions so I saw a lot. Staff were attentive and responsive.

I had brilliant midwife for my first and ok midwife for my second. Gave birth without any pain relief for the first which I credit to the midwife. Also gave birth without pain relief for the second based on previous experience of first Midwife. Hard to explain but she was amazing.

We are talking 10,- 15 years ago mind

I really liked the new ante natal centre at Kings

I only had it for dd recently and it was very good

The wards are the same kind of mayhem - but we did pay for a room for one night after birth

I know Kings have a specialist peri-natal medicine unit and have seen them on the TV for twin to twin transfusion and doing operations in the womb. Obviously, if your pregnancy is straight forward, then that all won't be needed. If, however, you are high risk or baby has any complications, it might be the better choice.

I was very happy at St Thomas , they took very good care of both of us after I'd had a traumatic pregnancy the year previous. I recieved excellent care at the home from home birth centre during and after labour too.
