Scared of miscarriage!

Hi, I am 7 weeks pregnant today and absolutely terrified of baby not having a heart beat. I have a doctors appointment on 29th Sept and am hoping they will be able to check heartbeat but I'm not certain. I don't think I can mentally wait until my 12 week scan. I suffer with anxiety which has been heightened as I fell over fairly early in pregnancy (before I found out). Please can you offer suggestions on how to ease this constant worry in my brain! :(

Maybe pay for a private scan if you're able to do that? That would really put your mind at ease and the private clinics are always so helpful.

Sending my love x

I understand your anxiety, it's a horrible wait. I agree with pp, if you can find the money, many private scan places will do over- the- stomach "reassurance" scans from 10 weeks (about £50 and you'll need a full bladder for a clear picture). Private fertility clinics may also offer internal (transvaginal) scans from 7 weeks gestation, but I'm not sure about costs for those as they are typically included in IVF/IUI packages. I've read Doctors/Midwives aren't always willing to to doppler heartbeat checks now, as the heartbeat can sometimes be tricky to find and thus cause unnecessary worry,

They can't listen to the heartbeat at 8 weeks(?). You need a private early scan if you need reassurance however it's natural to be worried and no one can predict that will happen even with ten extra scans so try to relax.

I am in the same position, 8 weeks today. I had a fall on Friday (not onto my belly and I wasn’t hurt) so paid for a private scan for reassurance, it was £79 and transvaginal, and I could see the heartbeat etc and had confirmation that the baby was growing well in line with dates etc, it was the best £79 I’ve spent in a while! I’m still anxious as I don’t have my 12 week scan until the end of October, but the chances of miscarriage are apparently lower once baby has a heartbeat.

If you have a private scan clinic near you (I went to Window to the Womb) then I recommend that to hopefully help reassure you. It is a long wait to the 12 week scan, especially if you found out early and then you are reluctant to tell too many people.

Take care & best wishes x
