Trigger warning: potential miscarriage

Hello, I'm freaking out and my health authority won't speak to me as I'm not at home, even though aim due home un a few hours, so can't speak to the local authority either.

I'm 13+2 pregnant with my first, through ivf transfer. I'm having brown spotting, and have been having mild abdominal cramping on the right side all week, though spotting started overnight. I've felt exhausted, with a bad headache for the past few days.

Could I be having a miscarriage? Any positive results with these symptoms? What can I do?

I might be wrong, but brown spotting suggests it’s old blood and have seen it happen a few times on here and everything was fine with the baby. Have you contacted your EPU or midwife? Surely under your circumstances they’ll ask you to go in and get checked out.

Fingers crossed all is okay xxx

@MotherOfShihTzus
I'm nearly 7 weeks and have had bleeding this week which changes colour. I spoke to the doctor and EPU on Friday, they told me although its not 'normal' it is common and brown/black is better than red blood as it is old. Apparently it can happen because your body is making room and clearing anything old out.

If there is a EPU open in your area It would be good to contact them, in my area they're only open M-F but if you have a google it should tell you how to get an appointment.

Without being checked it is very difficult to say if it is a miscarriage or not. I've previously had one which was just cramping and no bleeding, but the signs can be different for everyone.

Stay positive and I hope everything goes ok for you❤️

Pop up to day care and have a triage or go to a&e and get seen

Brown blood is supposed to be ok

It's when it's red and with pain they worry but I worry about everything in pregnancy it's such an uncertain time

Sending love

I had ivf and also brown spotting.
All turned out fine op.
I would ring your EPU, but as long as it's not red and filling pad that's the good thing.
You will feel some aching etc as your body is growing.
Best to get checked for peace of mind.

It’s normally bright red blood (and lots of it) plus cramps that are a problem. Light spotting is common in pregnancy. Have you had a 12 weeks scan?

IsabelHerna · 19/09/2021 14:58

I pray it's something normal during pregnancy and that everything will turn out okay.

Hi, I had spotting this week at 13+2, it lasted 2 days and I went in to be checked. Had a scan and baby was fine. It has since stopped! They said it's more common than you think and there isn't always a clear cause. Have you had your 12 week scan yet ?

MotherOfShihTzus · 21/09/2021 17:48

Thank you all so much for responding, it has been reassuring :)

I went fir a scan with EPU today and all looks ok :)

Still no idea what causing the bleed/ pain, but I'm at least happy that everything still looks to be progressing :) x
