I drank until I found out I was 10.5 weeks pregnant

I am someone who has never had a regular period. I got off birth control for a short period of time when I stopped having a period and thought I just continued to stop having one because I was at a low weight compared to my normal (as I often do this).
When I was (unknowingly) 4.5 weeks pregnant I drank probably 5 drinks throughout the day on a Saturday on that Friday I had a margarita and a 9 oz glass of wine (plus possibly one more glass). I didn’t get drunk.. That’s about 8 drinks that weekend.

I also just about every weekend after that would have 1-3 drinks.. And an occasional drink throughout the week.

My last drink was at 10.5 weeks pregnant. I only had a 5 ounce glass of wine that weekend.

How at risk are we for FAS? Has anyone drank like this and had a child with any of the FAS birth defects?

You should probably get advice from your midwife, they're best placed to reassure you.
I personally wouldn't be worried. You're not going to be drinking heavily through your whole pregnancy.
I got really drunk at my friends 30th birthday before finding out I was pregnant & then went to a food tasting where you have a glass of wine with every course and 4 glasses of brandy because no one else liked theirs.
I mentioned it to my midwife when they asked about drinking at my booking appointment, she wasn't concerned and I'm not worried.
My mum didn't find out she was pregnant with me until 4 months & drank that whole time & I was fine.

Don’t worry, loads drink a lot more before knowing they’re pregnant.

My first child was conceived in a time where I was under a lot of stress and had a good few nights out letting off steam.
One abysmal hangover where I hadn't actually drank very much but threw up my morning cuppa instantly was the start of morning sickness. She's 14 now. Fine. No issues and I think I discovered I was pregnant about 9/10 weeks.

It’s quite difficult to get FAS, a LOT of alcohol needs to be drank for that. I am sure baby will be fine

MrsColon · 16/09/2021 20:05

Very unlikely to cause any problems at that level of drinking. Please don't worry, as long as you've stopped now the baby should be fine.

Thank you all so much for the positive feedback

Have you had your baby? Any update?

Saphire21 · 11/12/2021 20:03

I haven’t had him yet. It will be a few more months but I will follow up after I have him :)
