Spotting at 4 weeks

Hi Ladies.
I'm 4 weeks 1 day pregnant and am suffering with some very light spotting. It's frequent but only appears when I wee and wipe. Sometimes it's pink and sometimes it's slightly more red (nothing like a period tho)
Has anyone else had this? I spoke to my GP and she said it's normal but not feeling anymore reassured!
Thanks!!! :) xxxxxx

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sorry forgot to mention that when I say frequent, it’s just been over the last 24 hours, only when I wee tho!!!

Hope you're ok, it's probably just implantation spotting and nothing to worry about. Have they said they'll scan you? I had spotting at nearly 6 weeks but they said it was too early to scan. Called back at nearly 7 weeks and they scanned me internally and found it was fine (although they thought baby measured only 5 weeks). Had a private scan a fortnight later and baby was actually 8 weeks and fine. Spotting had just stopped by then. Sonographer said probably implantation blood, or just a bit of irritation and a popped blood vessel. There is so much extra blood pumped to the cervical area during pregnancy that sometimes you do get a bit of unexplained blood.

Hey op. I had spotting from 4w-8w
Brownish/pinkish, only when wiping.
Hope you get seen soon at hosp.

Thank you for sharing your experience that's given me some reassurance! I know that there's lots of reasons that I could be bleeding but I'm such a hypochondriac that I will always expect the worse. I was told I would be scanned but wether or not they will I'm not sure. I doubt they would be able to see so early on!! I have a scan in 2 weeks so hopefully that will offer me some reassurance xxxx

I started bleeding the day after I found out I was pregnant, started off brown but turned fresh red mainly on wiping. I presumed I was having a chemical but my tests continued to progress. I bled for 11 days with cramps too but I’ve had my hcg levels done this week and they have doubled, the bleeding appears to have stopped today and I have a scan next week so I’ll see what’s going on then. Sorry I know that doesn’t exactly help as I don’t know what’s going on with me yet but yours sounds like it could very well just be implantation but I know how worrying it is when you see any loss. I hope the loss settles and all is well with your scan in couple of weeks x

Thank you! Best of luck with your scan too. My bleeding sounds similar to yours and my test lines are getting darker and darker even within a matter of morning and evening! I pray that baby is okay!!! Xxxx

Thank you I’m hoping it’s good news but you always think the worst don’t you. That sounds positive then and hopefully your bleeding settles and all is well 🤞 x

do You have any updates on the outcome? :)

LIB2020 · 18/01/2023 12:14

I had a positive outcome and my baby is now 8 months old but I know that isn’t the case for many so I’m sorry to anyone that unfortunately miscarried xx

RJD23 · 18/01/2023 15:38

Oh that’s amazing, congratulation! when you had the spotting, did you have any period pains with it? I’m just worried because I’m just over 4 weeks and had 1 little bit of spotting which was a a bit red, but no period. Makes me so worried x

LIB2020 · 18/01/2023 21:38

Thank you. Yes I did have pains with the bleeding, not all the time but one of the days is was so severe I had to attend the walk in centre. My bleeding lasted 12 days all together and some days it was bright red and heavy, I really thought I was miscarrying. If you just had slight loss maybe it’s just an implantation bleed, with my first pregnancy I had one day where I had a very small amount of loss, I thought I was coming on a period so it wasn’t until I found out I was pregnant that I realised that it must have been an implantation bleed. I really hope it’s the same in your case and wish you all the best xx

I hope I can give some reassurance when I say I had a massive bleed when I was pregnant. I was sent for an emergency scan and everything was still normal. It's completely normal to bleed and most of the time it's not dangerous. I went on to have a natural birth full term and no other issues in pregnancy xx
