Oxford JR or Swindon GWH midwife led units

Hi all,

I’m currently 36 weeks pregnant and still undecided about whether to have baby at Oxford or Swindon as we live between the two.

Uncomplicated first pregnancy and am hoping to use the midwife led unit (either the Spires or White Horse respectively). Am currently down for Oxford as we technically live in Oxfordshire but Swindon is a bit closer.

Anyone have any experience of either unit (or delivery suite at JR / GWH in case I need to transfer over during labour)?

Things I’m mainly thinking about are parking (do you get a permit for use during labour?); whether the rooms are en suite or you’re in a ward after giving birth; whether they offer mobile epidurals; what the facilities are like if there is a problem with me or baby (eg if we were at Swindon would we be transferred to Oxford anyway if they have better/more specialists)

Am going to discuss again with my midwife next week but any thoughts or experiences would be much appreciated! Thanks
