Scan but don’t want to know gender(yet!)

So I have a scan tomorrow morning. I’m 15+4. Hoping to be able to find out if it’s a boy or a girl but will be asking the consultant to write it in a card for us so we can have a little gender reveal at the weekend.
Problem is, I know that if I look at the screen, I’ll be able to tell if it’s a boy or girl! This isn’t my first pregnancy, and I’ve been able to see pretty clearly before!
I know I could just not look, but I don’t want to not see my baby. Plus the suspense is killing me!

I'm 30 weeks & don't want to know either. At every scan they've asked me do I want to know & I've said no , so when they get to the part of the scan where it would be revealed they tell me to look away for a couple of minutes. I've had 8 scans so far & it's still a surprise!

I had loads of scans during my pregnancy and I didn’t want to know the sex. I always just mentioned to whoever was scanning me that I don’t know and they’d avoid that area and turn the screen if needed.
Just to pre warn you, if this is an nhs scan they are unlikely to tell you the sex at this stage. My trust had a rule where they didn’t discuss the sex of the baby til at least 20 weeks. Some hospitals won’t write it down for you either. You may be better getting a private scan. Is there a reason you’re having an extra consultant scan at this stage?

If it's an NHS scan, they won't tell you at this stage and they also don't commit to writing anything down usually, as it may be wrong. If it's private, sounds fine :)
I told everyone I saw for scans that I didn't want to know the sex and they just asked me to look away when they were checking her bits and made sure they showed me the baby from belly up!

I had an appointment with this consultant last week and asked her if she could tell me(she was so lovely!) and write it down for us and she said ‘of course! Only if you name the baby after me if it’s a girl!’ She’s been my consultant through last 2 pregnancies and we’re on pretty good terms now.

That's not true re finding out the sex through the NHS at this stage. We went to our 12 week scan where I was indeed 14 weeks and saw clearly it was a boy by the Sonographer. She couldn't wait to show/tell us.

Every trust will of course work differently but in my case we found out with no issues Smile

Hope all goes well @Betweentheeyes x

I didn't find out at all. Every time the sonographer was looking around that area they'd just said 'eyes closed' and that was that.

Booknooks · 15/09/2021 08:52

Not every trust will be happy to write it down, but mention it at the start of the scan for sure and they can ensure you don't see.

She already knows we don’t want to find out today but I’ll definitely be reminding her! Didn’t sleep at all last night with nerves!

How I’m not going to open that envelope for 3 days, I don’t know?!
