quick question for midwives here re safety of hot water bottles

i am 33 weeks pregannt and getting back ache and some period type pains. is it safe to use hot water bottle or lavender wheat pack in pregnancy to ease pain?

im not a mw but i used a hot water bottle on my back almost every night from 30 weeks as I had bad cocyx pain. my consultant said it was fine so long as not too hot and not to put it anywhere near bump

do you have any bleeding? I wonder if it would be worth phoning the midwives - they may want to check you if you're getting cramps?

thanks no i don't have any bleeding but i do take your point re cramps and backache!! it is on my mind a lot that i might have the baby early so thanks for your advice. however cramps seemed to have eased off although i may give them a call tomorrow if i still have back ache

Hi Fab - yes, on the back is fine, or even on the front for a short time (15 mins, not too hot) is ok.

Have a lie down and take some paracetamol and hopefully youll feel better tomorrow. If still cramping, give the hospital a call.
