Small fundal height at 25 weeks, now bigger than average at 28 weeks?!

I had my 25 week midwife appointment three weeks ago where they said my fundal height was measuring 23cm - a bit small, but still within the average range (15th percentile).

I went back today for my 28 week appointment and am now 29cm (70th percentile).

The midwife said it was still in normal range so it's fine and can depend on midwife/baby's position. But it seems like that's double the growth that should be expected at this stage! Has anyone else had such a large variation?

My measurements have been all over the place - I was initially measured below 3rd centile (scanned, baby just over 50th), then later on measured around the 50th-75th; had another scan quite recently which again showed baby on the 50th centile. So there can be a lot of variation. I was also measured twice within a couple of days (by accident - they aren't supposed to do them close together) and had wildly different measurements first measurement on the 50th then two days later back below the third again! So like your midwife has said lots of variation depending on baby's position and who is measuring etc.

Yeah it's only a rough idea. I'm measuring about 5cm small. I know the baby is average size as I'm having growth scans so amn't worried. But it does show how much variation there can be. If baby is transverse/oblique I guess the bump would be flatter but spread out more to the sides? Also could be fluid. Or maybe you just ate a lot!
