PI MCA under the 5th Centile

Hi folks!

34 weeks here!

We have been having regular scans due to previous history of IUGR (although this bubba seems to be doing okay and consistently measuring around the 16th centile, so smaller but perfectly fine. Last baby was off the bottom of the chart!

Yesterday I was a bit worried about bubbas movements, she had been quiet for a few days but was SUPER quiet yesterday (although still getting hiccups regularly, so I knew it was nothing too sinister). Anyway, they ended up doing some blood flow measurements and the MCA one came in under the 5th centile. They kind of dismissed it very quickly and just said we'll we'll see you next week for your next scan anyway, so we'll remeasure then, but they gave me no info on what any of this actually means. So I did the WORST thing and googled it when I got home and am now absolutely freaking out, there was hardly any info out there other than ones talking about brain damage and cognitive defecit and even neonatal death.

Can anyone shed a bit of light on this? From what I can understand it's the ratio of blood between the umbilical cord and the brain, but I just don't really understand it :(

They told me to not wait if I have any concerns atall and come back straight away if I'm worried, but now I AM worried because of this, so what do you do lol?

This pregnancy has just been one issue after another and now I've got this to worry about too :(

Hi, just bumping this old post in the hope you may be able to let me know how things went @Braxos

I am in the same situation at the moment. Can’t find anything online that isn’t in complicated medical terms 🤯

Hi @MrsS89K.

I ended up having bubba at 36 weeks. She weighed 4lb 13oz, but needed no oxygen or help! We went home at 5 days and she is now a beautiful healthy 5.5 month old :) tiny but mighty!

I don't know if that helps? It was scary at the time, but seems like a lifetime ago already. These babies are pretty amazing ❤

@Braxos thank you for taking the time to reply ❤️

So glad to hear your baby didn’t need any oxygen and she is healthy. I really hope I get the same outcome 🤞🏼

I’m having a C section next week at 37 weeks. But I have been in for monitoring every 2 days from 35 weeks til the c section next week.

I’ve been so anxious, but your story has given me hope, so thanks again for sharing x
