Could I be pregnant?

Hi, I've nc as don't want this linked to my previous threads, but I'm looking for some advice please?

I had the Mirena coil fitted in January 2021. (My 2nd one). I had light bleeding for around 6 weeks and have had nothing since, no periods at all.

For last 3 weeks my boobs have felt really heavy and sore, especially when taking ofd my bra. And my nipples have been really sensitive and like bullets Blush I've also felt more tired than usual although I wouldn't quite describe it as fatigued.

I don't know if this is connected, but I've also had a lot of lower back pain lately. I have a history of this and see a chiropractor every 6 weeks, but I've noticed this time that the pain has returned much sooner than normal between treatments. Some shoulder pain also? Again, im not sure if this is connected?

Anyway. I took a Clear Blue test this evening. It came up as negative so after a few minutes i left it sitting then went back to it approximately 40 minutes later to see a positive. I've heard of evaporation lines but I'm not sure if this is what it is?

I took another test and kept it beside me for about 20 minutes, and nothing has come up at all.

I'm feeling really confused at the moment Sad

For context, I'm 40. I have a 16 year old and have been with my current partner for 6 months. Neither of us are planning more children.

Thanks in advance! (Hopefully the photo has attached).

Tests aren’t accurate after 40 mins. It will be evap lines. It doesn’t sound like you’re pregnant tbh

Thanks for your reply derbee Smile

Hi all.

Sorry to jump on this post but I’m driving myself mad. I’m 3 days late and did a test this morning. I know you’re supposed to dispose after 10 minutes and I did but when I opened the bin a few hours late, I spotted an extra line.

Do we think evap or positive?

Could I be pregnant?
Derbee · 14/09/2021 16:31

Again, evap line most likely. Tests are not accurate and cannot be read after the recommended time. If you’re 3 days late, you would be likely to have a very clear line within the recommended time.

rattlemehearties · 14/09/2021 16:33

@lucyloo678 start your own post, how rude to jump onto someone else's

rattlemehearties · 14/09/2021 16:35

@Koalahugs it's very very unlikely but not impossible that you're pregnant. Tests with the first wee of the day will be more likely to pick up chemicals so try another test first thing tomorrow. Overall though if you're feeling hormone changes and unexplained symptoms a GP or nurse visit might be a good idea to rule out anything else!

lucyloo678 · 14/09/2021 16:54

@rattlemehearties oh I apologise. I am new to all of this and have no idea how to start a new post. Please be kind, I haven’t intentionally tried to be rude!

MyMabel · 14/09/2021 16:57

@lucyloo678 Evap. First response are terrible for them at the moment. They must have changed something when manufacturing because I used to love them but all the ones I did before finding out about this pregnancy had really visible evap lines.

lucyloo678 · 14/09/2021 16:59

@MyMabel thank you so much for your reply. I’ve never even heard of evap lines until I started reading up today. I’ve always used those tests so maybe will make a change x

koalahugs · 15/09/2021 06:32

Fingers crossed this works. This is the 2 tests from the other night. My friend says the lines are too dark to be evaporation lines?

I'm calling the GP today.

@koalahugs how about a digital? Takes away any line confusion!

ThinkingOfPineapples · 15/09/2021 09:00

Hi @koalahugs,
Those don't look like evap lines to me, call the doctor or your EPU asap. If you have a pregnancy with a coil fitted then the chance of it being ectopic is really high.
I hope whichever way you want this to go then, that it all works out for you x

koalahugs · 15/09/2021 09:24

Thanks all, im waiting for a call back from one of the nurses at my local clinic (who fitter the Mirena). Should be around 10am.

I know this is crazy but hear me out! Got my partner to POAS last night then we looked at it this morning, and no evaporation lines. Obviously I know it wouldn't have come up as positive Grin but wanted to see if there were any lines after 8+ hours.

I know the chance of me being pregnant is TINY, but it's the breast / nipple tenderness that's getting me. And if im definitely negative, then what could be causing it? It's like a form of torture!

OP posts:
Derbee · 15/09/2021 10:03

Not crazy at all @koalahugs! When I got my positive, I wanted my partner to wee on the other test as a control 😂

Hope you get some resolution, and the result is what you want

koalahugs · 15/09/2021 10:20

Derbee im glad its not just me! Grin

The nurse called me back just before 10am and she has made an appointment for me to be scanned late afternoon today to rule out ectopic. So I'll get my answer today for definite.

If it shows a viable pregnancy then unfortunately we'll not be going ahead. Although my dd is a teenager, she has a lot of MH needs. I've only just started to get a bit of independence from her and I've also recently had the confidence to go for a promotion within my workplace (which I have got). I also live 50 miles away from my partner, and we haven't met each other's kids / most of each other's family. There's too many reasons not to go ahead. Although I can feel a little yearning niggle in my ovaries, which has taken me a bit by surprise.

Anyway, time will tell!

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I'll report back.

Hope all goes well @koalahugs

koalahugs · 15/09/2021 15:17

So this was a First Response. Photo taken 4 minutes after POAS.

I thought it was negative but then when I zoomed in on the photo I can see a faint pink half-line to the right of the control line.

No digital tests at the chemist but I've heard the First Response ones are quite sensitive.

Those clear blue tests definitely look positive. I’m not so sure about the FR but the photo isn’t great. Hopefully you get an answer this afternoon.

rattlemehearties · 15/09/2021 21:31

Hope the scan proved useful. Must be very difficult.

koalahugs · 16/09/2021 13:00

Hiya, thought id update!

So long story short, im not pregnant!

Went to the clinic, explained the situation and the nurse seemed reasonably concerned. Explained my options and then I was to get an abdominal ultrasound. She got one of the doctors in too. Had a little look about, could see that the coil was in the correct place, then caused me a bit of stress by pointing at something else on the screen and both of them looking with their heads turned to the side.

They asked me to provide a urine sample for another test and they'd decide from there if i needed an internal scan. Waited a few minutes and still negative, so i was sent on my way.

They explained that the breast pain and sensitivity would be down to hormonal changes. And despite it being 8/9 months since my coil was fitted, this can still happen out of the blue. They also said that shop bought tests can be unreliable. 3 out of 4 positive tests..now that's pretty unlucky Shock And with this, i was sent on my merry way.

This whole incident had left me really confused. Confused about my body, the tests and just lots of things. Something i was thinking (and keep thinking about) is that had i been desperately wanting a baby, then id have been so bitterly disappointed to find that the tests were actually unreliable. I know that 2 were out with the recommended development time but the FR one was within just a few minutes. Its quite shocking when you think about it.

Thanks for the support Thanks

@koalahugs thanks for updating. I’m glad it’s ultimately good news for you, but must have been a confusing and unnerving time.

I personally wouldn’t have taken any of those tests as positive - the clear blue were out of time, and the first response was on the wrong side of the control line, so evap rather than positive.

However, it wouldn’t hurt for them to make everything clearer somehow, as on the pregnancy pages people who are desperate for babies post pictures like yours all the time, with lots of people congratulating them for their positive tests etc. I’m sure the lack of clarity causes heartbreak all the time.

Scoobygang7 · 16/09/2021 16:36

It's massively disappointing I had exactly the same as you. Although my coil had been in situ 2.5 years. I had multiple positives on different brands too. I am sorry you went through this too
