Has anybody been pregnant during a flare up of Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis? I have UC and am in my first trimester. I'm so worried something will happen as I know that active bowl inflammation can stop nutrients being absorbed like iron etc.

Hi @forestlovr. Congrats on your pregnancy. I have crohns but luckily haven’t had a flare during pregnancy. What meds do you take? Have you been told to come off it?
A lot of pregnant women found they felt their best when pregnant so hopefully you’re ok. I was advised to continue with my treatment (infliximab) but the consultant give me the choice if you haven’t spoken with them since your pregnancy you definitely should to get some advice. I think the likes of steroids are ok to administer during pregnancy too if you did have a flare

Hey @1ce1cebaby Thanks for your reply! I'm currently takeing sulfasalzine! I've contacted my ibd team today as I'm worried about the blood in my stools. Fingers crossed it doesn't get too bad

Hopefully they get back to you soon. And hopefully you’re well and it’s under control. But at least they can still treat you when pregnant. My consultant has said he would see me more often during the pregnancy - although that hasn’t materialised - but thankfully I feel ok. I’m consultant led due to my crohns but the two consultants work separately and I am to liaise with each of them about either pregnancy or crohns - which is fair enough. As for your it done deficiency- your maternity team should monitor this and get you an infusion if necessary. If you haven’t had your initial bloods done yet (mine were done at my first scan) they’ll do a full blood count to ensure they get you on supplements or give you what you need - though hopefully your IBD will do bloods before hand and sort you out if you’re currently losing it.

Yes I had flare ups with colitis whilst pregnant. Was in Octasa and Pentasa and it was fine.
