36 weeks - reduced movement. Your experience

Hi everyone,

Currently 36+3 with DS2. He’s been measuring very small, and we have had growth scans every two weeks, he has been following the curve but under the 10th Percentile. Once in my second and once in my third trimester I had reduced movement which prompted the growth scans to start. Last two days he’s been quiet, so going to call triage to get checked out this PM. Just wondered if anyone was similar and what was your outcome? My first son was born at 36+5 due to my waters breaking (then had to be induced). I have a consultant appointment also tomorrow but not sure what to expect. Any help or experiences appreciated! Thanks

No experiences I'm afraid but hope they take you ASAP for some extra checks and reassurance.

I've had a few friends go in at 36 weeks for checks and they were then admitted and the baby induced. I'd perhaps have an overnight bag in the car in case you need it.

Good luck

Any doubts get yourself checked. I had them last week at 37 weeks and with myself having covid. They put my mind at ease and we’re happy to still see me.
I’ve also been in for the opposite - crazy baby movements! Again treated just as well and throughly. Turned out it was baby turning into the correct position.
Each time they’re keen you don’t mess around and always call - regardless of how often that seems to be.

Emergency c section at 38 weeks. We were incredibly lucky as was sent home the day before and shouldn't have been.

Amber2802 · 13/09/2021 13:48

Do you mind me asking what happened? I just keep thinking something must not be right but feel like I’m going to get fobbed off..

I couldn't get him to move. All the usual stuff didn't bring a reaction. Checked up and heart beat was found. Sent home rather abruptly with a request to come in an hour early for a booked scan the scan next. Thankfully he held on as the scan showed he was in serious trouble. I had an emergency section and it took a while for him to be okay. I probably had obstetric cholestasis and did have polyhydromnius.

Keep an eye on movements. It isn't just reduced ones, if baby is moving a lot more than their normal you should be checked too.

Don't be robbed off. This is your baby. The midwives don't care about the baby as much as you, don't put their feelings of being busy etc before your mummy instinct telling you something might be wrong.

Fobbed off.

BlueberrySugar · 13/09/2021 14:06

Absolutely get checked. I went in loads of times because DS was being a pickle.

Every time I wasn't fobbed off, I didn't allow me to be. Listen to your gut instinct.

ivfbabymomma1 · 13/09/2021 14:07

I had reduced movements 14 days before my due date so they gave me a c section at 12 days early. I had a c section booked anyway but they brought the date forward

Emergency c-sec. Take your bag. I didn’t and had nothing but my dead brick phone and my car keys. (Ds fine btw. Shaky start but fine).

37 weeks. He was 5lb 3oz. There was something wrong with the placenta and he wasn’t getting enough blood. He had a blood transfusion but because his body was prioritising blood to his brain he had short term damage to his other organs and struggled to put on weight. He needed a special diet, SALT, and physio and was developmentally delayed until he was about 5 but he’s a teenager now and completely normal. Good at maths, shit handwriting, fabulous swimmer, can’t put socks in the washing basket. He’s still small but he’s at that awkward age where you get squeaky voiced boys and downy faced “men” in the same class.

Shadedog · 13/09/2021 15:21

When is say “he wasn’t getting enough blood” I mean he was losing it somehow and not being able to replace it fast enough. Like a slow leak.

Ljc1985 · 13/09/2021 15:34

I had reduced movements at 36 weeks and baby stopped growing as much! I had a lot of extra scans and then they booked me in for daily monitoring to and I was then induced as also developed high blood pressure my induction did end in C section but that was actually nothing to do with the induction but DS was absolutely fine when he arrived .

SheWoreYellow · 13/09/2021 15:36

Hope you have been seen Smile

I had 2 episodes of reduced movements at 38 and 39 weeks, had a scan at 39 and they were concerned that growth was trailing off, reckoned about 9th percentile. They wanted to induce me but I refused as it was mid march 2020 and I worked in the same hospital and knew that visitors were about to be banned, DH likely not able to stay, the NHS about to implode due to covid etc so they offered an urgent c-section instead which I gratefully took. Due to higher priority emergencies I ended up having DS at 40wks on the dot. He was bigger than predicted (6 lb 7) but very long too so still looked pretty scrawny. He absolutely thrived from birth and I'm sure was just ready to be in the world.

Don't be afraid to push for what you need.
