My husband and I have (finally) started trying for a baby - I won't bore you with the journey to get to this stage. I'm 30 and he is 35 next month, so not old in the grand scheme of things but perhaps older than I'd have liked.

Anyway. I had an implant out of my arm in November 2020. They said it could take a while for a period, but I had one within a few days. After that one in November though, I didn't have another until April 2021. Since Apr though, I have had bang on a 25 day cycle every month. We've only been trying since May (and how people cope with trying for years already upsets and baffles me! 💕). This month, I was due on Friday. Nothing, so I took a test which was negative. I've tried not to get carried away with excitement in the hope of a false negative and I'm now on Day 3 with still absolutely no bleed at all. I've done another test today and still negative (both Clearblue).

My question is a) is it possible I am pregnant and the tests just aren't showing as positive for some reason? And if so, how long do I wait? And b) if I'm not pregnant and don't have another period, for this month at least, does that mean I can't get pregnant until after my next period?

Isn't it infuriating how people get pregnant on 1 night stands and when you're trying it can take ages!? (Not having a go at anyone here, just mad how it all works!)

Thanks in advance for any advice,
A concerned wanna-be mum!
Kel

Very infuriating. You probably aren't pregnant but for your own sanity get some pink dye cheapies. Loadsa people get Evaps with blue dye

Hi! I've only joined this forum today and haven't ever been on one before so have no idea what your reply means! 🙈 sorry!

Hey,

If you were pregnant then the tests would definitely be positive at 3 days late.

Do you use OPKs to track ovulation? Just because you have a monthly bleed it doesn't necessarily mean you are ovulating. It can take 12 months for your body to get back into sync after being on normal contraception so you're still within that timeframe.

Pink dye cheapies are HCG strip tests which have a pink control and test line as opposed to a blue one. You can get them on Amazon and in B&M, etc. An evap is an evaporation line, a false positive basically. Blue dye tests are notorious for them (Clearblue included).

First Response Early Results (FRER) are the most sensitive test on the market and are pink dye. They can detect pregnancy up to 6 days before a missed period. They aren't cheap but are very reliable (in my experience). Cheapy wise, Easy@Home are very good for OPKs and HCG tests and you can track your results on the Premom App which is free.
