Folic acid?

I've read a few things that have said folic acid helps increase your chances of getting pregnant.

I've also read things that state folic acid has no affect on fertility.

Anyone able to offer some insight in to this? Is it true or not? I have been taking folic acid to help prevent against defects when pregnant but confused if it can actually increase your chances as I've read conflicting info

My experience is that my cycle were really irregular 35-50 days, as soon as I started taking folic acid my cycles were around 28-31 days. I’ve also just found out I’m pregnant. Could be coincidental, not sure!

I thought folic acid was purely to help with defects, spin- bifida being the main one,

Not that I’m aware of. You take it to prevent birth defects.

Thanks everyone.

That's what I thought but there was a few articles online saying folic acid can increase your chances by 35%.

It might just be a one off article. Not entirely sure if it's accurate or not but thought it was quite interesting if true!

I was taught on a course that sometimes a nutritional deficiency can be detrimental to fertility so was told to take a multivatamin and eat well. Plus, if you are getting everything that you need before you conceive, the embryo will implant into a well nourished environment and if morning sickness hits, you have some reserves to fall back on.

It's not going to do you any harm to take a good multivitamin from a wholefood source, whereas if there is a chance low levels of folic acid or any other vitamin will make getting pregnant more difficult, then surely it makes sense to take the supplement?
