Hello moms out there 👋
Its the weekend, my fertility clinic is closed, my urgent care clinic is closed, and I have no one to turn to for feedback.

Last month I had an artificial cycle with a frozen embryo transfer, everything went well, on day 16 my hCG was 289 which I was told was great, follow up hGC 4 days later was 1526, which I was told was also good, but the day after my last blood test I started bleeding, after using the bathroom. it was pinkish to red and made a stain about the size of a lemon. Now I have brown spotting and cramping (although I've had cramps on and off since embryo transfer)
I'm so worried. I thought the hCG was great and just the day after this happened. I'm so worried that my embryo has died, has anyone had a similar experience? I'm looking for some explanations of what might be happening.

P.S. neither the bleeding or the pain is is very severe, so I don't think I need to go to the hospital right way.

I bled at about 5 weeks of my first pregnancy. Quite a bit of blood, like a normal to heavy period. It was Christmas Eve and I was staying with my parents so was away from my gp and antenatal services. I called nhs111 and they said go to hospital. After a 7 hour wait the hospital said they couldn't do anything and I would need to go to antenatal unit which wasn't open for 3 days! Anyway, long story and a pretty crappy Christmas later I went in for a scan and there she was, heart beating away. She is now a happy and healthy 3 year old. I will never forget how scary and traumatic it was but just wanted to let you know that something like this isn't always bad news. Hope you get some answers soon. X

Two ivf babies, tonnes of first trimester bleeding, both fine. It’s not necessarily over.
If you are using progesterone pessaries, the bleeding might not even be from the uterus but from an irritated cervix.

mumwon · 12/09/2021 14:23

fingers crossed op but if this is just spotting it maybe OK its about the right time frame for implantation (if you do a search on the web for IVF & spotting at 5 weeks lots of things come up about this) & it hopefully will be a strangely good sign -

UnexplodedPotatos · 12/09/2021 14:26

Yes, using Utrogestan 200mg pessiaries 3 X day. But it seems like a little too much blood from just an irritated cervix or scratch?
I'm just really paranoid because I lost my last pregnancy several years ago at 12 weeks and it was very traumatic. But I'll look of more about bleeding from the pessiaries.

(DIgs into ancient memory!)
Not ivs but I had this with my first child at about the same time - dd was fine - hope this turns out as well - just rest up over the weekend op

UnexplodedPotatos · 12/09/2021 14:28

It seems very late for implantation spotting, shouldn't that be within 10 days of embryo transfer?

I had ivf and bled loads. Proper heavy bleeding with cramping. The baby hung on. In contrast when I lost a different ivf pregnancy I knew nothing about it until a scan showed no heartbeat.

Exactly the same for me.
minatrina · 12/09/2021 14:57

I don't know anything about ivf, but if it helps, I bled at 6 and 7 weeks and all has been fine since, currently 31 weeks.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, I believe bleeding is pretty common in early pregnancy so there's no sense in panicking yet - but I know that's a lot easier said than done!! Will you be able to speak with your fertility clinic or anyone similar tomorrow? x

3womeninaboat · 12/09/2021 14:59

Idk, my bleeding was really a lot, huge clumps of tissue much bigger than the baby but several scans showed nothing going on in the uterus. I had one episode after lochia had stopped too and was scanned and it was apparently all coming from the cervix. The quantity really surprised me.

MeAndZig · 12/09/2021 16:22

Hi OP sorry you’re understandably feeling anxious . I’m also pregnant following IVF and had a bleed at 5 weeks and 8 weeks. The bleed at 5 weeks was heavy and I passed some clots , I was convinced it was over. I called my local hospital and they told me to go to a&e so they could refer me to the early pregnancy unit where I got scanned and asked to come back a week later. Might be worth trying to call your hospital for advice. I didn’t know how coming bleeding was in the first trimester until I had it and spoke to family and friends. Best of luck

thismotherhoodthing · 12/09/2021 16:22

I haven't had IVF, but I bled from weeks 5-9 of my pregnancy, then again at week 19. I had an internal exam at that point and they said I had a cervical ectropian which was causing it. I'm now almost 34 weeks and had a scan yesterday and baby is looking very healthy

MeAndZig · 12/09/2021 16:23
  • how common
MeAndZig · 12/09/2021 16:23

Ps also try the back door for your pessaries to see if that helps

UnexplodedPotatos · 12/09/2021 17:05

Thank you all so much, you've given me some hope. When I had my first miscarriage it was shocking and traumatic and I can't stop thinking about it.

I might have to look up using the pessiaries a diffrent wayShock

Hi there

I’m nearly 6 weeks pregnant. I had a miscarriage 3 years ago and been trying to conceive since then and it finally happened. All was well for the until I had brown spotting in week 4 on my pad. Then inconsistent days of fresh blood when I wiped. It would be on and off. Had a gap of 2-3 before I bled again. Now I’m getting red blood and small clots when I wipe but not flowing and filling the pad. Also I have been advised by the doctor to wait it out and do another pregnancy test in 2 days. Also I have noticed my breasts have gotten less sore. Any advice or information would be much appreciated as I am really scared.

MeAndZig · 21/09/2021 16:47

Hi @Alisha32 you might want to start a new thread to get more traffic. Sorry to hear you’re spotting, it definitely doesn’t mean your pregnancy is over xx I would always advise women to get I touch with the early pregnancy unit at your local hospital so they can arrange a scan or a blood test, just to put your mind at rest. Hope you’re ok I know how worrying it is

Berry1927 · 02/05/2022 11:10

Hi ladies I'm wondering if anybody has experienced anything similar and everything been ok. It's my 8th cycle of IVF with 2 blastocysts transferred i finally received my bfp which as you can imagine was the best news me and my partner could of received. 4 days ago I started spotting tiny bits of brown then pink everytime I went for a wee and wiped. Anyway it stopped and then yesterday I had a little bit more but it was red with a tiny clot but after that I have had nothing so it's nothing like my period and also IV had no cramping at all I'm still praying everything will be ok but it's just worrying.

SerendipitySunshine · 03/05/2022 05:08

Yes, I had this @berry1927 after IVF and went on to have a healthy pregnancy. Fingers crossed for you.

UnexplodedPotatos · 05/05/2022 06:15

I'm giving an update that eventually the bleeding/ spotting stopped and now I'm 39 weeks pregnant and expecting a little boy. :-) thank you all for the support in such a stressful time, and finally everything turned out ok.

@UnexplodedPotatos amazing update, congratulations! You must be over the moon ❤️ Xx

SerendipitySunshine · 06/05/2022 19:51

Great news.

Berry1927 · 14/05/2022 06:07

I thought I would give a update to give all you ladies needing any hope in such a stressful time 😁 I went for a scan on Thursday and theres one little beautys heart pumping away. We were really expecting the worst as I started bleeding again a few days later which were red and heavier but I wouldn't say as heavy as a period this has not stopped since, I also had a full day of cramps so we honestly thought it was over but little bean is still there. The nurses said they can't even see where the bleeding is coming from and that I may bleed all the way through but it's nothing to worry about I'm due 28/12 ❤️
