Hello ladies,
I’m trying not to stress and would love to hear from others in my situation.

I’ve had my 28 week scan this week
and bubs is measuring in at the 8th percentile. What does this mean moving forward??

I’ve scans already scheduled for 2 weeks time but I can’t help feeling just so scared.
This is my second baby, first bubs measured completely average the whole time.

What am I in for?

My daughter was consistently below the 10th percentile and was born 5lb 3oz on the 0.4th percentile. She was perfect in every way and needed no additional care. I had scans every 2 weeks from 28 weeks and was induced at 37 weeks.

Similar to poster above OP.

I have health conditions which mean I had some high BP and this can contribute to a small baby so it wasn't too unexpected

I had growth scans 2 weekly but was left to go nearly to full term as myself and baby were generally well. I was induced at 39 weeks and my DS was 2.2kg and 0.4 centile.

But like other poster, he didn't need any intervention and was perfectly healthy. It was a bit daunting seeing him so small and for the first week I was terrified I'd break him!

I moved to formula after 3 weeks as he wasn't gaining as much weight as I'd like as I was struggling with BF. He's now 20 months and average for his age. I would say he caught up by about 12 months but I didn't worry too much. The main thing was he was healthy and a very happy baby!

Good luck OP and do try not to worry!

You will likely have growth scans every 2 weeks. Try not to worry, my baby has been below the 5th centile since my growth scan at 28 weeks but is perfectly fine, I’m just being having her at 37 weeks to be on the safe side Flowers good luck with it all, it’s really scary but they will look after you both.

Ladies, thank you. Reading your comments/experiences has really made me feel much calmer. Its so hard not to get scared, however I’m feel a weight off of my shoulders.

I’ll keep you posted in weeks to come Smile

My Dd was 0.04 centile so I had a planned induction at 37+5, I had a sweep a few days before and that sent me into labour. She was consistently this small throughout my growth scans and is now a dinky 2 year old.
The only concern they had was if she dropped centiles, which she didn’t. No did her growth Plato or anything.

Thefaceofboe good luck with the birth Flowers

Thank you! I’ll try and remember to come back on here and post babies weight as I’ve been told by so many people the scans are VERY inaccurate Grin

Sleeplessem · 12/09/2021 22:18

At the moment, all it means is you’ll be monitored a little more closely (likely scans every 2/3 weeks) to make sure baby still tracks along the same centile and the blood flow to the placenta is ok.

How were your dopplers?

Look up the saving babies pathway and ask your hospital if they follow it. They used to get twitchy and recommend induction if baby is below 10th centile but now it’s more recognised that some babies are below 10th centile and perfectly fine xx

Do you have an update please OP I'm in a very similar situation, would love to hear how your getting on.

Melskiski · 09/11/2021 00:17

Hi wavecatcher. Firstly, I hope you are going okay. I remember I was so caught of guard and scared when I first found out I had a small Bub on board. It’s been almost 10 weeks since then and I’ve been feeling so much more comfortable and confident as the weeks pass. As ladies advised me I have been having scans each week. One week growth scan the second week Doppler. I’m just back from my Doppler scan now actually and everything looks good. Bubs at last weeks growth scan was 14th centile!!

Try not get too worried. Whilst I haven’t meet bubs yet (37+2) I’m sure everything will be fine.

Thank you for your reply was really helpful. Yes your right I've been surprised and caught of guard by it. I'm going back for another scan to see how baby has grown. I'm really glad to hear everything is going well for you in pregnancy.
