I’m really confused, hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. So I had my second baby yesterday - normal delivery but had epidural and was on syntocinon drip to start labour. I bled about 500mls after. Prior to going to delivery unit I was on the antenatal ward for about 5 days waiting for a bed. I was quite mobile at that point and going for walks outside the hospital etc. However I’ve been stuck on the ward since yesterday and my BMI is over 30 but under 40 and I was never discharged with dalteparin injections but was for my first baby. I’m really confused as surely I’m higher risk this time after second baby? My first baby was the same experience induce labour, epidural, synto and a 350mk blood loss after birth. Can someone explain why I haven’t been given it this time?

How old are you? Most hospitals use some kind of risk scoring system to assess if you need dalteparin. If you're under 35, in my hospital you'd only score one point for BMI >30, and you only get dalteparin if you score 2 or more, so if no other risk factors you wouldn't need it. Call your midwife to check if you're not sure.

I’m 31. Midwife coming to visit at home today. I’ll double check with her when she comes. Thanks for reassurance - maybe I don’t need it after all.
