When did you employer ask how long you'll be off on ML?

So my employer asked me, very reasonably, quite early on in my pregnancy when I was expecting to begin my ML, obviously understanding that things could change.

I'm due to finish in just a few weeks, but haven't been asked when I'm coming back yet?! It's transpired that he's mentioned to another member of staff that he doesn't think he's allowed to ask me by law, which surely is incorrect?

So we're in a position where neither of us has brought it up Grin and I'll clearly have to be the one that broaches it.

Mine just advised me that they assumed I was taking the maximum, but to give x amount of notice if I wanted to come back earlier, and to take accrued holiday into account. I can't remember how much notice it was though.

Same, mine assumes 12 months mat leave and needs 8 weeks notice if you want to return before 12 months.

@katmarie thanks for the advice Smile I went back to work quite early after my last baby, but I'm planning on taking 12 months this time so it'll be a big spanner in their works if they're not assuming I'll be taking the full amount.

I told them unprompted, once DH and I had made the decision together. There was an option on my paperwork to put an intended return date.

Informal conversations with my team and manager covered the potential for flexibility, but I was recruiting for a temp to cover my role whilst I was off and didn’t want to dick about with that so aimed to stick with my intended return date unless there was a dire emergency.
