I had COVID at the end of last year and never regained my sense of smell and it’s been 8/9 months. Worried about how I will cope once baby arrives in a couple of months with not being able to smell dirty nappies etc and it’s making me a bit anxious. Is there anyone else with permenant loss of smell and how do you cope? I’m hoping it will come back but at this rate I’m not too hopeful

No advice as baby’s not here yet (33+4) but I know how you’re feeling and have been having the same worries. I haven’t regained my sense of taste or smell after having covid in April last year, it’s improved a little but definitely nowhere near normal and it’s been 17 months now so I’m not optimistic about it coming back 😫 Every now and again I have a wobble about not being able to tell if nappies are dirty and people thinking I’m a bad mum but I’m sure there will be other ways of telling (babies behaviour, weight of the nappy etc?). What really gets me is not being able to smell that new baby smell that people talk about, it’s been one of the things I’ve thought about since having covid, way before we were even trying for a baby and I just can’t shake it from my mind 😔

I have lost my ability to smell 'bad' smells(poo, farts, garbage, etc) not from Covid though. It's been 5 years.

With my 3 year old, I paid close attention to his cues. Luckily he had a 'pooing face' and often I would hear it. I also just had to check frequently just in case I missed it. 8 months pregnant now and hoping this one has a 'poo face' too! HTH

Thanks for the reply’s @cams88 did you see a doctor or professional about no smell? If so did they advise anything? I’m dreading not being able to smell that new baby smell that everyone talks about too
