Waiting for baby nearly 40 weeks

Second child. First one was nearly 42 weeks when eventually arrived after traumatic birth. I'm 40 weeks in the next couple of days and am starting to lose my mind! I feel like I'm destined to have another late baby. I'm massive, tired, uncomfortable, bored and impatient now. And sick of being pregnant! Anyone else?!

@FTEngineerM if you dare you can google it and look at the pictures 😬😳. It's basically like a massive lump of yellowy jelly that can have some blood in- you will definitely know if you spot it!

Hi. 39+5 here and feeling all the same things. Had a sweep on Wed and had such wishful thinking. I'm now just miserable and exhausted. Lucky my Dsis came over to take DS(2)for a walk while I wallow on the sofa. Trouble is when i lay down the acid comes back! Induction booked for 26th but that feels like years away! Good luck everyone. Positive thoughts for us all.

FTEngineerM · 16/09/2021 13:18

Oh god no thanks @bravelittlepenguin 🙊 definitely wouldn’t kiss that if it happened though so I’ll keep an eye out.

Shes booked me in for 3 sweeps over the next week starting Saturday (yay DP gets his interview labour free) and then induction would be booked for 40+12 so next Friday 🥺 god I hope I don’t have to wait that long.

FTEngineerM · 16/09/2021 13:18

Miss not kiss 👀

bravelittlepenguin · 16/09/2021 13:35

@FTEngineerM lolololol kiss 😳😳. It may have been my sweep on Monday that kick started all this waiting. I've got a MW appointment tomorrow so will ask her to see what's going on down there. Scared she's going to tell me little or no progress though. Why is labour such an unknown quantity? I thought if I actually went into labour on my own I would at least avoid induction but it appears not!!

@crystaltips98 same- my DD has been taken out for the day by a kind family member. I feel like im being a crap mum too as im too uncomfortable/in pain/knackered to do much with her this week. Poor baby girl.

Baby Alexander finally made his appearance- on what the lady who took my preop bloods called “eviction day”! The c section went well and I’m slightly glad he came that way as they mentioned he has a big head 😂 he’s doing well and we’re enjoying lots of snuggles 🥰

bravelittlepenguin · 16/09/2021 20:53

@Mariposa123 haha love that! "Time to leave now baby!!" Congratulations on the arrival of lovely little Alexander 🥰. Hope you're enjoying the cuddles

Hi everyone ! So pleased some babies have started appearing ! Congrats @Mariposa123 😊

I am in slight disbelief (and some disappointment) that I am still pregnant! Tomorrow I am 41 weeks and will be induced using balloon induction as I had a previous c section. Honestly I can’t believe it, I never thought for one minute this would happen!

Trying to remain positive. 3rd sweep today. I’ve tried everything and have been having contractions most evenings but they just die off when I go to bed. Hope everyone else is doing well !

CobleCloud · 17/09/2021 11:29

Hi everyone.. my little boy arrived last night at 11:33pm weighing 7lbs 10 he may have kept us waiting 3 days but his arrival was very fast no time for anything other than gas & air! Got to hospital at 8:40pm 7cm dilated, waters went and next thing I was ready to push! He needed a bit of help with forceps and I had to have a little cut but we are both doing well! We have named him Oliver Coble Jones 💙

FTEngineerM · 18/09/2021 06:14

How was your appointment @bravelittlepenguin ?

Struggling now, just miserable every day. I can barely move and have caught a cold which is greeeeeat. I don’t even know if I have energy to labour right now. Midwife is coming to do a sweep today, I don’t know why I feel weird about it being done at home 🙈

Tinydancer321 · 18/09/2021 18:01

Congratulations every one on your babies! I’m
39+3. Don’t feel her coming any time soon!
She is my fourth x

bravelittlepenguin · 19/09/2021 18:12

Hi everyone! My baby girl has arrived!!! Thank goodness! I had an extremely long latent phase (again!) and relatively slow progression to active labour which meant I was utterly exhausted by the time I was finally 4cm (had been up the entire night by the time that happened in hospital and was totally knackered from 4 days of contractions) but when I finally got there I had an epidural and they broke my waters which meant I was able to get a bit of rest and progression was then pretty normal- went from 3/4cm to 10cm in about 6 hours. Epidural was a dream to allow me to conserve some energy and take away the pain of the contractions. I could still feel the pushing and the sensation of tightening too which allowed me to participate in my labour. Anyway- she arrived late at night and she is absolute heaven.

All I can say is that we women are absolute warriors. We go through so very much in pregnancy and childbirth and we are so powerful and strong to be able to deliver our babies however it eventually happens. And it WILL happen for all of you still waiting even though I know it doesn't feel like it.

@FTEngineerM your sweep will be absolutely fine at home if you haven't had it already- it will probably be better as you will be more likely to be comfortable etc too. Hope it kick starts something for you.

Congratulations @bravelittlepenguin glad you’ve finally got to meet her.

You’re right. We are warriors 😍😍

Sweep did nothing, stillllll pregnant 41+1.

@Tinydancer321 I was hoping they come sooner second/third/fourth time around?

Firstttimemum2021 · 20/09/2021 09:04

Thought I'd join in as I'm currently 40+2 with my first baby and completely fed up!! 😩 Had a failed sweep on my due date as my cervix was reachable and shortened slightly but completely closed and rock hard. Spent my due date crying and disappointed I'm ashamed to say! Got another attempt at a sweep this Friday and induction is booked for 28th which I think is inevitable. Genuinely feel like I will not go into labour naturally 🙁

CobleCloud · 20/09/2021 09:04

Congratulations @bravelittlepenguin

I am honestly amazed how much strength us women have.. 💪🏻

Sorry you're still waiting at @FTEngineerM got everything crossed for you, that baby arrives soon x

I know that feeling very well. The torture of waiting is something only the very pregnant can understand!! Try to keep busy during the day and fill your days with nice things and treat things and try not to think too much ahead. All that's certain is that your baby will be here soon whenever and however that is!

Also if it makes you feel any better I had a failed sweep two days before I went into labour with my first at 41+3. So even if it feels impossible things can change quickly

@bravelittlepenguin congratulations! Enjoy the newborn snuggles!

It shows they always come eventually- and not until they’re ready!

crystaltips98 · 22/09/2021 16:42

Congrats @bravelittlepenguin hope you are enjoying all the baby snuggles.
How did your sweep go @FTEngineerM ?
After 2 sweeps and now at 40+3 baby is still hanging on. MW said she was still quite high too. I keep crying with exhaustion and frustration. Ds(nearly 2) is having LOTS of TV. Induction booked for 26th but I am so over being pregnant I hope she comes sooner.

crystaltips98 · 22/09/2021 16:46

@Firstttimemum2021
Hope things are moving along for you. With my first I was booked in for induction and he arrived that day. It was like he was just waiting for an invite. Hope your LO gets the memo and gets a move on too.

Thank you so much! They really leave it to the last minute don't they 😂 I'm 40+4 now and been losing bits of mucus plug all day (what I think is my plug anyway!) and got constant back ache and some tightenings that come and go but aren't timeable or consistent 😩

FTEngineerM · 22/09/2021 17:06

Join the club @Firstttimemum2021 were all waiting here 😭you’ve found good company!

@bravelittlepenguin your comment has given me hope, 41+3 and just had second sweep. 2 cm and stretchy yaaaaaay.

But how can I be half way to ‘active labour’ dilution and not have felt a thing? ! Wild.

@crystaltips98 yessssss to the TV and lots of chilling for DS1🥲 I don’t even have the energy to feel bad about it anymore, it’ll be over soon!
Induction Friday, I’m crapping myself. Last sweep tomorrow. Hold in there, you have a date, keep focused on that 😍

crystaltips98 · 22/09/2021 20:01

@Firstttimemum2021 all good signs.
Positive thoughts to you all! Grin

Currently in the birth centre at 5cm dilated!! Had the epidural about 30 mins ago and feel like a new woman 😩 watch this space, baby girl is on her way 💗

FTEngineerM · 23/09/2021 21:16

I can finally say.. 41+4 we went into labour at 3am, was 8cm by 7 am and little Dylan was born via caesarean at 15:37 8lb 10oz.

bravelittlepenguin · 23/09/2021 21:17

Exciting to read all your updates! Sounds like everyone is nearly meeting their babies for the first time! I'm utterly in love with mine- utterly exhausted too 😴- but her tiny face is so perfect I can't believe it!
