Waiting for baby nearly 40 weeks

Second child. First one was nearly 42 weeks when eventually arrived after traumatic birth. I'm 40 weeks in the next couple of days and am starting to lose my mind! I feel like I'm destined to have another late baby. I'm massive, tired, uncomfortable, bored and impatient now. And sick of being pregnant! Anyone else?!

@SillyBry that sounds like things are going the right way!

Just had the midwife come round for a second sweep. she felt baby’s head this time but cervix still closed - so some progress?

My inclination to do anything physical (in the bedroom or otherwise) is nil. Good on those of you with the energy haha

SillyBry · 12/09/2021 09:45

It’s over for me!!! 😁🤣🤣
After my sweep on Friday, I started getting contractions at midnight… by 7am, they were pretty serious, so my mum came round to collect Naomi (our daughter)… got given a room at 9am in the labour ward as the birthing centre was full. (But the rooms are pretty identical and at that point, I didn’t give a damn!)
Contractions were relentless and intense… my waters finally burst at around 11am and baby Rosie was born at 12.03pm with a lot of swearing, crying and “I can’t do it”! I really struggled when she was crowning… just couldn’t shift her and then got upset/panicked on the gas and air… but thankfully, all was fine.
They told me that actually, pushing her out slower (although bloody agonising), saved me from stitches etc.
She was 8lb 12oz and we were discharged home at 4pm.
Got no sleep last night, but quite smitten! Maybe my 3 mile post sweep walk did the job! 🤣

bravelittlepenguin · 12/09/2021 16:08

@SillyBry amazing- huge congratulations to you all! Lovely name too 🥰. Sounds like you were superwoman!

I'm 40 weeks today and still no signs at all- sweep clearly didn't do what it was meant to! Got another appointment tomorrow so will ask for another sweep 🧹

How's everyone else getting on?

Mariposa123 · 12/09/2021 17:28

Ah congratulations @SillyBry ! Lovely news 🥰
I turned 41 weeks yesterday and still no change. I’ve been bouncing furiously on my ball haha

Yogamummy23 · 13/09/2021 14:35

Huge congrats @SillyBry !! Very pleased for you 😊

I’m now 40+2 and lost my plug yesterday and today. We shall see !

bravelittlepenguin · 13/09/2021 16:33

I had another sweep today- cervix exactly the same as Friday apparently 😭😭

@Yogamummy23 fingers crossed that means things are on the move for you!

FTEngineerM · 13/09/2021 18:34

@SillyBry congratulations!! how’re you getting on?

No action here either ladies 🥺 also just realised I can’t or at least shouldn’t have the sweep Thursday at my appointment because my DP has a huge like seriously life changing job interview Friday and I don’t want him to miss/have to rearrange😬😬😬. So I maybe having to go sweepless unless I beg her to come to my house over the weekend I suppose.

@Yogamummy23 fingers are crossed for you.

bravelittlepenguin · 13/09/2021 19:15

@FTEngineerM gah how annoying! Sod's law! Can you organise it for after his interview perhaps? How many weeks will you be then?

Ive booked in my induction for next Tuesday- so I've got another week to give her a chance to make an appearance. Somehow don't feel very positive that she will though as I was feeling like she would surely be here by this week, last week! Don't want to get my hopes up!

OP posts:
SillyBry · 13/09/2021 19:47

@FTEngineerM oh no, that’s a real pain! Although I think “my wife has just gone into labour” is a legitimate excuse? 😉

Getting on ok here - don’t know if it’s Covid or baby number 2, but I’ve barely been seen!
We were discharged 4 hours after birth, supposed to go back for her newborn checks the next day, but the hospital rang and asked us to go the following day as they were overrun. Then the first day midwife appointment ended up being over the phone as I was “uncomplicated and she was run off her feet”!
So finally got our newborn checks done today - all fine. A bit jaundice, so we’re on operation feed, feed, feed for the next few days. I’m quite exhausted and feeling a bit impatient, but could be a lot worse! She’s been super chilled out so far - and big sister is very much in life. (Long may that last!)
Body wise, I’m feeling a bit battered… they say the afterpains etc are worse second time around. (Great, thanks! 🙄) but again, I didn’t need stitches etc, so it could be worse!

MamaTutu2 · 13/09/2021 19:51

@bravelittlepenguin the thing that worked for me was 3 lots of colostrum harvesting in 1 night, I’d been doing it for a few days but kept giving up because no pains, I was on my own that night so did it 3 times for about 10 minutes out of boredom. 2am labour started 6am baby born!

I'm still bf my daughter so I don't think it will work for me! I'm not sure when it actually switches to colostrum but I think if I tried now I would just get normal milk out of my boobs 😳

I hope so @bravelittlepenguin she said induction next Wednesday if nothing before that. Me too, I was convinced they arrive sooner second time but here we are☹️🤷🏽‍♀️. I am becoming very impatient. Well done for still BFing, that is so great, are you going to tandem feed too?

Ha you’re right @SillyBry I just don’t want anything to hinder his chances 😂. So tonight or tomorrow would be great 🥳🥳🥳 send good vibes. Oh no I didn’t know that about the after pains 😬 is paracetamol and ibuprofen helping? I loved on that last time.

bravelittlepenguin · 13/09/2021 20:52

@FTEngineerM yup I guess I will do! Hadn't planned to still be bf'ding but she's never wanted to stop and I do still generally enjoy it so 🤷‍♀️. She only has some in the morning and if she's poorly or needs comfort- I'm thinking she might want to feed more when the new one arrives though. Will have to see how it goes really! Did you bf last time? Are you planning to this time?

OP posts:
Mariposa123 · 14/09/2021 11:02

@bravelittlepenguin I’m the same with my bf toddler! We’ve managed to night ween her except for actually falling asleep.

Although yesterday she got a runny nose so we had an awful night 😫 supposed to have my final sweep this afternoon, but the hospital may now need me in for pre op bloods for the ELCS on Thursday - I just want to sleeeeeep

FTEngineerM · 14/09/2021 15:36

Probably right, it’ll be cute though and a way for her to see she doesn’t need to be jealous or anything.

Yeah and I want to again, they’re leaking a bit now so I think I should be able to.

How’re you today? 👀

bravelittlepenguin · 15/09/2021 14:11

@Mariposa123 it's so tough with toddlers around isn't it- definitely not the restful end of pregnancy it is with your first! How was your sweep/bloods?

@FTEngineerM I am in total limbo land over here. Started having contractions the night before last about 4:30am. Stopped in the morning yesterday but started again by lunchtime and were coming once every ten mins. Stopped again in the evening but started again overnight last night so I got no sleep. Today they've basically stopped completely. MW just says to be patient but I'm knackered before it's really even begun and all feels like such an anticlimax! At least they've started on their own I suppose. Lost my mucus plug/bloody show today too so hoping that's a good sign. How you getting on?

OP posts:
FTEngineerM · 15/09/2021 14:32

@bravelittlepenguin that’s great, something is happening woohoo, i can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for it to stop but maybe it’ll restart this evening 🤞🏼🤞🏼. Ive been reading that we’re meant to be relaxed? Maybe order a massage from DH? 😃🤷🏽‍♀️
Nothing for me today, I’m so done as well, I am so incredibly uncomfortable and can barely move around. I’m going to get her to check my cervix tomorrow though at least I’ll know what’s going on. I really don’t want to be induced next Wednesday.

CobleCloud · 15/09/2021 15:11

I'm 40+2 today! Saw my consultant this morning she managed to sweep me and I'm 1cm dilated (stretched to 2-3cm) and my cervix is soft! Started to lose my plug before I went to my appt so hoping things are starting 🤞🏻 if not I'm booked in for an induction on Tuesday.. hoping like others baby starts to make an appearance before that.

Hope everyone is ok and not too fed up! Smile

Mariposa123 · 15/09/2021 19:04

@bravelittlepenguin ah glad somethings happening! It’ll be over soon.

I had my third sweep yesterday but no change on cervix annoyingly. So we’re all geared up for the ELCS tomorrow. I’m just ready to get him out now!

bravelittlepenguin · 16/09/2021 10:26

@CobleCloud any signs of anything after your sweep?!

@Mariposa123 good luck with your section today- so exciting that you get to meet your little one 🥰

I'm still in limbo here- no established contractions just random ones that keep me up all night! MW says I may still need to be induced on Tuesday so my initial hopefulness has dissipated slightly 😞

OP posts:
CobleCloud · 16/09/2021 10:44

Morning @bravelittlepenguin I've been losing my plug since about 4pm yest afternoon a mixture of mucus and blood. Didn't sleep great at all up every couple of hours and think I was having contractions felt like intense period pain which came in a wave and disappeared..lasting about 30/40 seconds. They seem to have eased a bit this morning but still have pains and cramping. On my ball again hoping it is the start of something and things ramp up. I feel clueless being a FTM.
How are you getting on?

bravelittlepenguin · 16/09/2021 10:55

@CobleCloud yup contractions can feel like period pain so it sounds like you might be in business! I'm just lying on the bed feeling sorry for myself considering a nap 😂. I was so hoping I would be in proper labour by now but my babies never seem to want to make an appearance on time!!

Also TMI but how gross is the plug?! I really don't remember it from last time but it really made me feel icky this time- like an alien life form 🤣

OP posts:
CobleCloud · 16/09/2021 11:09

I'm hoping it is the start @bravelittlepenguin .. slightly concerned they have eased off a bit.

Aw bless you, a nap might be the trick to take your mind off things and make you relax a bit.

With you on the plug front it shocked me a bit 🙄😂 especially combined with my bloody show.

Got my fingers crossed for us both 🤞🏻

FTEngineerM · 16/09/2021 11:30

Good luck @Mariposa123 😍 hope today goes well.

I haven’t ever lost my plug so I don’t know what I’m looking for?

Still nothing sat waiting for my appointment now. I thought I had a contraction last night, nope, must have been him moving or something. Deffo going to get her to check what is going on up there because I’m not sure I can do another week of this 🥺

bravelittlepenguin · 16/09/2021 11:33

@CobleCloud that's the really frustrating thing about the latent stage- it can start and stop so much! With my first baby I have to say it did start and stop a bit but I was in active labour after a couple of days but seems to be so much slower this time! Fingers crossed for you they will ramp up again.

Yeah it's such a freaky thing isn't it! Rather alarming!! 😂
