Waiting for baby nearly 40 weeks

Second child. First one was nearly 42 weeks when eventually arrived after traumatic birth. I'm 40 weeks in the next couple of days and am starting to lose my mind! I feel like I'm destined to have another late baby. I'm massive, tired, uncomfortable, bored and impatient now. And sick of being pregnant! Anyone else?!
@bravelittlepenguin that doesn’t sound too bad at all, if you did have another CS have you got someone who could do the heavy lifting with your toddler for a while? Oh god 6 weeks of stabbing you self, not fun. I only had 10 days of that and I was done with it.
Recovery was ok for the first week then the stitches came apart so it got infected and needed antibiotics, by a month everything looked a lot neater thankfully 😬.

@Yogamummy23 nope, nothing, he’s going to make me work for it 😂 I went to sleep at 11 then woke up at 1 and 3 to pee and then 6 with agony in my arm from carpal tunnel 🥺 it’s literally like having a newborn. Is it the milk ejection that causes contractions or nipple stim itself? I can’t seem to get anything out when I try harvesting colostrum but obviously I could do the latter. Good luck for you sweep today, hopefully it bring on more contractions.
Yup my husband is around and parents close by too so it would be ok really I'm sure. Oh god your infection sounds grim! We definitely have to go through it with childbirth and babies don't we!!

How’s everyone doing today?
I had my first sweep - midwife said I had a “typical 2nd baby cervix”. Still quite high and thick, but 2-4cm dilated. She gave me a bishops score of 7, which is exactly between nothing will happen and something could happen 🤣
I’ve had awful cramps all afternoon and been off walking most of the day.
I’m losing a fair bit of plug… I hope this does the job !!

That sounds really good to me!! My bishops score was only 4! And I was only 1cm. So it sounds like you're on your way!

I had my sweep yesterday. Cervix still closed annoyingly so got another one booked for tomorrow 🤞🏻

FTEngineerM · 10/09/2021 17:29

I can’t say I know what it’s like but it certainly sounds like you’ll be ok if it does happen @bravelittlepenguin ❤️ Let’s hope not and we all get perfect tear free vaginal births ha!

@SillyBry what the fuck is a second baby cervix 👀👀👀, mine is probably still umm ‘relaxed’ since DS1 is only 15m 😂 I am dreading a sweep now. Not having one until 40+4 next Thursday though. Fingers crossed for you

SillyBry · 10/09/2021 17:39

@FTEngineerM Literally not a clue!! She said "You've got a typical 2nd baby cervix... it's high and thick, but open. Your bishop score is 7" and I'm like remember all this to google it as I don't understand any of it!!

@bravelittlepenguin I think it means that you dilate earlier, even if your cervix isn't low/ready to go... whereas the first time around, I was in pre labour for a day and was only 1cm!

I think basically, its all quite "relaxed", so it opens a little easier!
But I've not had any contractions... I feel like I need to poo quite a lot, but I think that's just all the pressure down there.

Good luck for the weekend everyone!

bravelittlepenguin · 10/09/2021 17:47

@FTEngineerM don't be scared! My two honestly didn't hurt at all- I remember them hurting the first time round so I think it's maybe another symptom of being a second time mum?! One benefit at least!

OP posts:
SillyBry · 10/09/2021 18:20

@FTEngineerM my midwife gleefully said she’d given me a “really good go”. So perhaps she was quite overzealous?!
And I think I’m quite tender down there anyway as I’ve had period/back pain all week!

Yogamummy23 · 10/09/2021 18:21

Sounds like we are all in a similar boat! I had my sweep this afternoon and she said it was score of 6, managed to get in there so to speak and about 1-2cm . Although it was bloody agony as it was ‘to one side’ apparently ?! What on earth!!!

Is anyone going to brave doing the deed after the sweep? I’m considering it as a friend said it worked for her!

Badabingbadabum · 10/09/2021 18:25

Just wanted to say, I was 40+12 with dd1 and a long, difficult birth with complications after. I was 40+10 with dd2 who was a quick, easy birth that left me thinking that giving birth is actually quite easy! Grin

You just don't know how its going to go.

RoseAndGeranium · 10/09/2021 18:58

I am so much here for this thread. I’m due Monday according to the dating scan (or Friday based on when I think I ovulated) and they want to induce at 41 weeks. (‘We won’t let you go over 41 weeks’, is what they keep telling me). I was 10 days late with no.1 and I’m desperate to avoid induction. It sounds bloody hideous. I’m also completely creeped out by the idea of a sweep. My friend had one and when she told me about it she went a bit green and said it felt ‘impure’ Shock .

FTEngineerM · 10/09/2021 19:11

Well if anything that rummage should get things going @SillyBry🙈 I defo glad to hear they can tell a 2nd baby cervix though, maybe it will all be a bit easier this time. Pre labour for a day sounds brutal.

Thanks for reassuring me @bravelittlepenguin I will defo have one, I had one whilst in labour last time but I was 4cm and it was so vigorous I think it was her technique though 😬😬.

Go for it @Yogamummy23 I mean mows the time to get the prostaglandin in the ehum.. right location

SillyBry · 10/09/2021 19:27

@Yogamummy23 my friend told me I definitely should… it’s the last time thing I feel like now… let’s see what bedtime brings 🤣🤣

bravelittlepenguin · 10/09/2021 19:45

I can't face sex at this stage- pleeease don't make me guyssss!! 😂😫

OP posts:
SillyBry · 10/09/2021 19:53

@bravelittlepenguin that’s kind of how I feel!!! I did DTD last night and I will say that increased blood flow to the area made it more pleasant that I imagined. But I’m as sexy as a whale with cramp every time I try and swing a move 🤣🤣

FTEngineerM · 10/09/2021 20:14

Or me; he would have to just wedge me into a position and hurry up until he finished. It would probably scar us both for life 😂

SillyBry · 10/09/2021 20:19

@FTEngineerM and who says romance is dead 🤣🤣🤣

Yogamummy23 · 10/09/2021 20:34

Ahahaha living for these comments !
Yeah it’s the last thing I feel like right now but means to an end ! I’m a bit disappointed as I haven’t lost any plug or anything after sweep.

SillyBry · 11/09/2021 05:29

So who did the deed last night?!
I was leaking mucus plug everywhere, so decided that was enough reason not to! 🤣
I’ve been having contractions every 10-15 mins or so through the night… they aren’t getting closer together, but man, they are fairly intense. Had to whack the tens machine on already!

Same! I've not felt anything or lost anything 😫. Come on baby!!

Sounds like you don't need to! Amazing news I'm so glad at least one of us isn't waiting anymore!

I definitely didn't DTD last night- we did it in the week and that was enough exertion for me for a long time 😂. I kept my dress on to cover my massive bump- didn't stop it getting in the way though 🤦‍♀️

Also @FTEngineerM 😂😂

FTEngineerM · 11/09/2021 08:49

I’m glad someone else was up at that time 😭 DC decided he wanted to play with his toot toot driver cars at 5:30am😬.

Definitely no sex last night, I cried, and this morning I feel so emotional over every tiny little thing. Maybe that’s a sign ?!🤞🏼

Yaaaaay @SillyBry it sounds like you’re getting somewhere, I hope they become more regular today. Maybe a baby Bry by the morning.

Still not feeling anything ☹️ Does anyone else’s patience run out the closer to due date they get?

I've just found this thread and it's made me chuckle! 🙊 with you all on the sexy time front.. I couldn't think of anything I'd rather do less right now!

Seems most of you are having your 2nd I'm impatiently waiting the arrival of my first.. I'm due Monday and just want something to start happening I really don't want to be induced. I've had what I can describe as period pains and niggles over the last couple to weeks but nothing consistent and no sign of losing my plug etc. Plus 2 unsuccessful sweeps.. I think my little man is just super comfy in there. I don't think he's going to come alone and it's making me fed up! Got the consultant on Weds at 40+2 to discuss next steps but praying something happens before then.

No idea if it's true or not but I think first babies can be late 🤦‍♀️. Mine was 41+3 but I did go into labour naturally so you can ask to wait rather than being induced if you prefer. The waiting game is an absolute killer though- I actually think it's worse with your first as you're just so ready for your new life to start and to stop being in limbo!
OP posts:

@bravelittlepenguin you are so right the waiting is what is killing me and everything twinge or bit of stomach ache is putting me on high alert thinking "is this it"

Here's hoping something happens soon, got my consultant on Weds, I don't think they will let me go too far over so I'm just focusing on getting to Weds to break the days up into chunks! Our minds do wonderful things don't they x
