Sore throat due to heartburn/acid reflux

Hi!

I'm just wondering if anyone has suffered from a sore throat due to acid reflux/heartburn?

My heartburn has been horrendous the past few days to the point it's made me sick and close to it numerous times. I have so sleep sat up but I spend a lot of the night on the sofa as I just can't settle it. Anything I can do to soothe the sore throat?

My advice is don't try to fight it, ring your GP tomorrow and ask for some omeprazole. It's magical stuff!

For tonight the only thing I can think of that helped me in the short term was chewing a load of gaviscon until it eased off but I'm sure you've already thought of that.

I waited too long to get help with indigestion in my first pregnancy and it was miserable (mainly as GP wouldn't prescribe, told me to do things I'd already said hadn't worked, luckily you could still buy ranitidine then so I just bought that and it did the job more or less) so this time I just went straight to GP and asked. It was no trouble!

@8dpwoah

I have omeprazole prescribed but I lost the instructions on how to take it so it's sat in the medicine cabinet until i get through to speak to someone on how to take it 😂

Oh no! Well mine is 20mg in a green and white box and it says recommended to take in the morning (but GP said whenever to me) and can be with or without food. Swallow whole with half a glass of water.

My GP even said I could take two a day 12 hours apart if it was really bad but I haven't needed to do that and I don't think I'd dare.

So unless you think you might be sensitive to it if honestly just try one now, it takes about an hour to kick in for me. You can have gaviscon AFTER as well if you like to cap off any acid still hanging about, i was told.

@8dpwoah aw amazing thank you! I'm only prescribed 10mg but my GP said if that doesn't do it he's hike it up to 20mg. I'm going to try one now! Wish me luck haha

Omeprazole 🙌
Take it in the morning with a glass of water and your set all day. Best thing ever.

Hmm interesting colour combo 😂 not the same brand but the same stuff. I'm sure you'll feel like a new woman after one of them!

You can safely take up to 40mg per day but 20mg is the norm. Make sure to have some gaviscon as well and you will be grand.

Gaviscon took the edge off but omeprazole was amazing. I’d forgotten what it was like to feel normal by the time I took it.
I do believe that pregnant women shouldn’t take medicines unless necessary - but your well-being is definitely necessary!

Just take it once a day.

Also gaviscon is your friend :)

Good luck, it’s rough

Been there got the t shirt :)
