Edwards and Patau further screening..

Hi,

Had a call today to say my downs risk was very low but my Edwards and Patau risk is 1 in 400, I’ve been invited in for further screening. Has anyone else had similar results? What was the outcome? I can’t help but worry. I’m 31 and I know age can make a difference.
Thanks

What further screening have you been invited for? I’m surprised they’ve invited you for more as anything less than 1/150 is considered low risk so by that metric you are clearly low risk. Xx

They said a blood test which is sent off to America, she didn’t say much else other than the appointment will take half an hour. That’s reassuring to know, I’m not sure why I have to have more tests then I will ask questions tomorrow x

Yeah; I’d be asking more questions too - typically you’re not referred unless your risk is higher than 1/150. Yours is a way away from that.

Some hospitals (mine included) are taking part in a screening trial whereby they automatically move to the next stage of screening for any result less than 1 in 500.

That’s a NIPT test then, it’s way more accurate than the standard nhs screening. Sounds worrisome but I’d be pretty sure your risk will come back v low risk from the NIPT test

That makes sense x

Hi, what was the outcome of your NIPT? I have just received the same odds.

Are you sure the scores are not as part of a research study? I was invited back for further testing with scores over the normal NHS limits for further testing as part of a study which was looking at whether they should be extending the screening parameters - so they were looking to see if they screened more people, they caught more cases. I took it up to put my mind at rest as I was only narrowly over the Downs parameters and I'm of the view that more data is a good thing and the results came back super low risk which really reduced my anxiety overall. Take up the testing if you want to, but do be reassured that those are not scores in the super-worrying bracket.
