Has anyone had the AZ vaccine whilst pregnant?

Hiya, just looking for some experiences (not a debate Smile)

So I had my first vaccination (AstraZeneca) before TTC and then didn’t have my 2nd as we were TTC and at that time the guidance changed regarding under 30’s receiving it, so with these factors I was advised not to have the 2nd dose. (I don’t need any lectures on this, this is how it was at that time and that’s what happened)

I was wondering if anyone has had the AZ vaccine whilst pregnant? How far along were you and how did you feel afterwards? How’s baby doing?

(I don’t need any info/experiences on any other vaccine as not applicable, just the AstraZeneca)

Thanks ladies ☺️

Also! Sorry for ANOTHER vaccine post, I know they can be annoying but so helpful to gather personal experiences x

Yes, I had both doses while pregnant, during my second trimester. I had a mild temperature and felt fatigued for a few hours following both doses (both times it came on in the evening after having had the dose in the morning). The temperature came down very quickly with a single dose of paracetamol. Other than that, very straightforward and I’m very happy to be vaccinated.

My understanding is that if you didn’t develop a blood clot with the first dose, you can’t develop it with the second, so there’s no reason not to get your second dose now. Getting double vaccinated is strongly encouraged in pregnancy as you’re at increased risk of becoming severely unwell. This happened to a friend of mine who ended up having an emergency c-section at 29 weeks and being put on a ventilator (she was unvaccinated). So I would really encourage you to get your second dose. It doesn’t affect fertility and has no adverse impact on the baby if you’re pregnant.

For what it’s worth, my baby is totally fine and currently kicking away at 37 weeks!

Hi. I had the Astrazeneca a week before finding out I was pregnant. Caught covid at 12 weeks pregnant. Still unsure whether to get second jab or not. It's causing me a lot of anxiety.

Pitstop1986 · 07/09/2021 13:29

Following this post, as I'm in the same boat. Had my first dose just before I conceived, when it came to the second they refused to give it to me as I was pregnant.

At my last antenatal appointment a couple of weeks ago, they told me to get it as it was safer to have the vaccine, despite unknown risks, than to catch Covid in pregnancy.

I am going to get it, but me and DH were wondering if it was better to wait until 28 weeks, when baby is pretty much fully developed.

I did in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. Now have a healthy 2 month old. I felt a bit tired the next day for the 1st dose but overall OK. 2nd dose no siqde effects

@Pitstop1986 They shouldn’t have refused to give it to you. Although the guidance now is to provide Pfizer or Moderna to pregnant women, if you’ve already had a first dose of AZ then they should give you the second dose of AZ.

Also - the risks aren’t “unknown”. The possible theoretical risks are well understood (and essentially non-existent, other than the very rare incidence of blood clots), and we now have a very very solid body of evidence showing their safety. The risks of catching covid in pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, however are very real and are significant.

I’m not sure there’s any benefit in waiting until 28 weeks in particular.

I had my first AZ before I got pregnant due to my underlying health condition despite being under 40, I had my 2nd one before my 12 weeks scan and so far all has been great!

I’m now 24+2 and 🤞🏼🤞🏼 All is going to plan, no issues at either scan!

Everyone will have their own opinion on this but I felt this was the best thing for me!

Nic2020 · 07/09/2021 15:09

I forgot to say I felt terrible after my 1st jab and didn’t even know I’d had it after the 2nd! Xx

ElmtreeMama · 07/09/2021 15:46

Had my first when I was 3 weeks pregnant and second when 16 weeks
My bmi is over 40
No side effects, no issues so far, currently 29 weeks x

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences, it’s much appreciated!

I had both doses, at about 21 and 33 weeks (I'm under 30, the first dose was before they changed the guidance for age/pregnancy). No side effects other than a sore arm. Baby is a healthy one month old now! My understanding is that the AZ vaccine is made in the same way as the flu jab which is given routinely so I wasn't worried in particular

Redpanda21 · 07/09/2021 18:07

I had one before I got pregnant and then the other was due just a few days after I found I was pregnant.

I had second one at 12 weeks as felt this was the best time. Was poorly with the first one but fine with the second.

For me I would rather be protected as catching Covid in the third trimester is apparently much worse if you haven’t had a jab or just had the one.

ThatScottishLass · 07/09/2021 18:21

I had the mixed regime after the guidance changed, as in I’d had AZ in March and when my second dose came around they did Pfizer. Are they doing it differently in the UK?

MummytoGeorgie · 07/09/2021 18:23

@AllSinging wait until after you've had your baby!

Amichelle84 · 07/09/2021 20:24

I did.

I had my first one back in Jan when I was about 6w. I'm clinically vulnerable so we weighed up the options and decided it was best to get it even though it was advised PG women not to.

After that I became quite nervous about getting the AZ one again as they were recommending PG women to have the other 2 instead. We decided I should still get it but every time I tried I was advised against it so left it.

I ended up finally getting my 2nd AZ one when I was 36w.

No probs with baby so far and now I'm 38w.

After my 1st jab I had a sore arm and really bad headache for a few days. After my 2nd jab I just had a sore arm.

Anon08 · 07/09/2021 22:21

Yes. First in March and then second at 10 weeks. Currently 24 weeks and all appears well. AZ was my preference as it’s old tech with a tweak.

Exmoorkatie86 · 08/09/2021 06:07

Yes, first before I was pregnant then the second earlyIish into my first trimester. No issues and baby is fine!

SouthwestSis · 08/09/2021 07:07

Yep definitely worth having your second dose as covid is so risky in the third trimester so best to get protected before then if you can.
