Hello All,

I am 15 weeks pregnant and taking folic acid and vitamin D tablet. But they say iron is also important to take. I tried pregnacare but that cause constipation so i stopped taking it. Can anyone suggest other option.

Spatone was way better for my guts than pregnacare - tastes disgusting but only for a moment, rather than being uncomfy for days with constipation.

So keep going with folic acid/vit d, then add in spatone for iron.

@Verbena87 Thankyou for replying. Can i take it without consulting midwife?

Pregnacare bunged me up too so I'm taking seven seas and it's been ok

Verbena87 · 09/09/2021 23:26

Yes, you can get it over the counter at the chemist, it’s just iron-rich water.

Hiya I use the Sevenseas multi vits and fine the much easier to cope with. No issues whatsoever with them and always on price lock in sainsburys too.

I take the Naturelo Prenatal as it seems to have all the nutients in their most absorbable forms- including Iron Glycinate (Ferrous Bisglycinate) which I've read is the iron supplement form least likely to cause constipation.

It's not cheap though - 2 daily capsules (needed in order to get 100% of NHS/UK recommended levels of Folate, Vitamin D3, Iron etc, although it says take 3 capsules on the bottle to get US levels) costs me about £13 a month Sad.

I second Spatone (apple flavour!) - you can get bulk on amazon

Says on the back 1 sachet for normal and 2 sachets if pregnant

Spatone here too. Drank it with cranberry juice for the vit c and other antioxidants. No constipation at all

I had Asda's own pregnancy multivitamin throughout my pregnancy (£3.50 for 60), also had omega3 supplement as I don't like fish.

I take floradix, it's multivitamin not just iron, not too expensive, liquid so not constipating, tastes quite pleasant.

Was anaemic in my last pregnancy on Pregnacare but so far so good in this one on the Floradix.

Mama Mio gummies, easier to get down than tablets (in my opinion anyway) and taste 1000% better than the pregnacare gummies.
