Hello All,

I am 15 weeks pregnant and saw some blood spots while wiping stools. But i dont have constipation, my midwife said it cannot be haemorroids. I am little worried now. Has someone else had this experience?
I will check with my GP as well but if someone could share experience meanwhile.

Do you have any pain when you see the blood? I’ve had this on and off throughout my pregnancy (currently 26 weeks) and am sure it’s haemorrhoids, despite not really having any constipation either. You’re more susceptible to them during pregnancy and in my experience even the slightest bit of straining can set them off. I find putting my feet up on a stool when I’m on the loo helps.
Definitely check with your GP but I am sure it’s nothing to worry about 🙂

As far as I know constipation doesn't just mean not "going" regularly as many people think - if you feel any discomfort or difficulty going at all and if the stool is quite hard or big it could still cause minor tears/ aggravate internal haemorrhoids (ones that you aren't aware of).

It's definitely best/safest to check with your GP but I would only really be concerned if it is darkish/"old" blood rather than bright red, or if there is a lot or it happens very regularly. Hope this is some reassurance.

Sorry by "very regularly" - I mean if the bleeding goes on for more than a few days. Although if it is haemorrhoids, then as pp said, they can be a recurring thing throughout pregnancy unfortunately

Likely haemorrhoids (you don't need to be constipated to have them) or possibly just a little bleed because of anal fissures. If your stools have been bigger, harder or tougher these can cause the anal fissures (tears). No need to worry if it's just spots of red blood occasionally when you wipe. Only a problem if there's blood in the stool and more so if it's dark red (old blood). Bright red indicates it's come from somewhere around the anus on the way out and unrelated to the stool itself.

I’ve not had any constipation but this happens to me too. Sometimes there’s quite a bit of blood in the loo too. Grim! I think it’s probably haemorrhoids reading some other threads but an anal fissure is also possible if you experience pain when you poo.
