Yeh and everything was totally fine. Don’t worry. Congratulations!

Aquamarine1029 · 05/09/2021 04:32

The umbilical cord hasn't even fully developed yet. Your baby is perfectly fine.

PlasticDinosaur · 05/09/2021 04:55

Both of my kids are happy healthy bright and hurricanes of destruction. With both of them I imbibed an entire bottle of wine before realising Blush just limit it ongoing you'll be grand X

got absolutely shitfaced twice ..i mean puking my guts up&blackout-style as it was a friends 30th,needless to say i didnt find out until late as i still had monthly bleed-i was really worried but baby born -no effects(&is now a strapping15yr old)pls dont worry,so many of us have done this-its when its constant/frequent..even in low doses..

Bells3032 · 05/09/2021 05:45

I didn't find out i was pregnant til 7 weeks and was having long island ice teas a few days before. Told the midwife - she said its fine and unless you were binge drinking all the time it's unlikely to do any harm. The umbillicle cord hasn't developed yet so can't pass anything to baby at that stage.

Even later in pregnancy many doctors say the odd drink is fine

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 05/09/2021 06:02

Millions of women have been in the same situation :)
I found out on 8th January so I'd had all of Christmas and new year drinking. Mine is now 13 and totally fine! Don't worry. FAS is not caused by having a few drinks in very early pregnancy.

Latenightreader · 05/09/2021 06:34

A friend didn't know she was pregnant until she was almost 6 months! It wasn't long after Christmas and she was horrified, but her child is completely healthy.

arcof · 05/09/2021 06:46

So many people do this, don't fret

traumatisednoodle · 05/09/2021 06:54

Please don't worry, I was in a very similar position 18 years ago, I am proud to say he is predicted 4 A*s in his A-levels, learning to drive and hoping to read human sciences at Oxford next year. I am taking him to his last season of U18s football later. Flowers

Twizbe · 05/09/2021 06:58

You don't share a blood supply with baby until around 8 weeks so all is fine.

FWIW I hosted a Eurovision party just before I found out I was pregnant. I got totally wasted! Baby is now 4 and perfectly fine.

traumatisednoodle · 05/09/2021 07:21

I should say, I didn't just have a few drinks. I found out at about 7 weeks. This is him a few weeks ago (I have his consent)

I too was worried about this because I was holidays and drank ALOT before finding out. As pp said the cord isn’t even developed yet. I think alcohol is probably the route of a lot of pregnancies so this can’t be unusual!

Scotabroad24 · 05/09/2021 10:37

Don't worry! You don't share a blood supply with baby for another few weeks yet so baby will be absolutely fine.
I didn't find out til I was around 7 weeks, it had been my birthday the week before and I had drank a LOT of tequila

Leah11 · 05/09/2021 15:00

Thank all so much for the reassurance :)

I imagine a lot of women end up in the same boat, myself included. I was on a right session over one Christmas period, not knowing I was pregnant - found out in early January.

GingerKombucha · 06/09/2021 14:04

Expecting Better by Emily Oster is a great book and explains the science on this. There is a slight risk that binge drinking in very early pregnancy will cause a pretty much immediate miscarriage but if it hasn't (which is obviously the case) then there is no harm done to the cells and therefore baby.

AudreyTattoo · 06/09/2021 14:07

Yes, I did this with dc2 (unplanned pregnancy). I went out one evening and had three pretty big glasses of wine. DS is completely fine Smile. I don't think the mw even registered it when I told her. Just like "and"?

DucksFlyTogether · 06/09/2021 14:27

I was 16 weeks before I found out about DS 😂 trust me I'd drank at 2 weddings heavily (all day drinking) and the odd glass of wine here and there with meals. He's fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'd also eaten loads of blue cheese, tuna, Mr whippy ice creams. You'll be alright.

ParkheadParadise · 06/09/2021 14:34

I was 5 months before I found out.
Been to several weddings, holidays and nights out.
I also used a sunbed at the time.
She was born healthy.
